WWYD - when to announce publicly?

so I've had it in my head that I would announce the pregnancy on FB on Valentine's Day. I know FB announcements aren't for everyone, but we keep in touch with a lot of family/friends that way, so it works for us. most of our families already know, and we'll be making a few phone calls to those who don't. we have a mini photography session set up with a photog friend of mine, and we were planning on it being V-day themed.

anyway, here's the dilemma - I'll be 12 weeks exactly on Valentine's Day, which is why I figured it perfect timing. I know that many have missed m/c's before (and after) that time, so I was hoping that I could schedule my next appt before then... but alas, I couldn't get in until the 16th.

it makes me incredibly nervous to announce anything 2 days before my next appointment. I'm just terrified that I'll announce and we'll have no HB at the appt on the 16th.

so what would you do? go with the plan of announcing on V-day? or wait two days until we can see that baby is okay, and make it a "belated" V-day announcement?

I would just wait the 2 days - I don't think most people will care if you announce on valentine's day or not.

I would wait if it makes you that nervous. I don't think it matters whether or not you announce on Valentine's Day.

Agreed - I think I'd wait. Although it does seem cute to announce on V-day, you'll probably just stress out over the next two days over whether or not you made the right choice. If you wait, you can announce with confidence.

I'd wait. I don't see much of a difference announcing on Valentines day or 2 days later.

Just because you announce it after Valentine's day doesn't mean you can't make it Valentine's themed if you wanted to!

I would wait. We announced at 8 weeks but only because we'd just come from the doctors and we'd heard a strong hb twice by then (once at 6w and again at 8w)

I agree with PP's- I'd wait. We've waited this long, another 2 days will be cake!

If you don't feel comftorable until after your appointment wait until the 16th. We are waiting to tell grandparents until after my appointment and NT scan tomororw. Originally when I found out I was pregnant I thought we would tell at 10 weeks but the closer it came the more nervous I got. I just want a little more reassurance and to be able to ask my doctor if it is okay to start telling the rest of the world. I am going to do my announcement on Valentine's Day. I will be 13 weeks 1 day at that point.

We're waiting until the 12th of Feb (telling family over skype for my dads birthday which is Valentines Day) and I'll be 14.5 weeks then.

It's what you will feel the most comfortable. Personally, I'd do it on Valentines Day. There's always a risk at any point.

I think it's just a personal decision. MANY, many people choose to announce way before 12 weeks. Personally, I will not, just because it was at my 12w appointment last time that we found out that we lost the baby, after having a great u/s at 9w where we heard/saw the HB. This time, I do not plan on announcing to anyone other than my parents and a few close friends, until after my a/s around 18w. If people notice before that, then so be it. But I no longer feel "safe" announcing before that. Again, this is just my personal choice and by no means a reflection on what anyone else should do. I feel jaded, and kind of like I lost that carefree pregnancy feeling.

I would wait , better safe than sorry! And valentines day will be overloaded with greetings anyway.

It sounds like you would be more comfortable in waiting the 2 days so you're not constantly worried about it if you announce on Valentine's Day.

We already heard the heartbeat (have a home doppler) and I also have an ultrasound appointment tomorrow but we will still wait t'ill the 12 week mark to tell everyone else.

Personally I would wait. But I have not had any u/s or doppler to this point, so I may be more apprehensive than some. If I'd heard or seen the h/b before that point I might announce.

thank you for the honest opinions everyone. I definitely think I'll wait the 2 days. I know that I'm still not in the safe zone by any means, but I'll feel more comfortable after seeing that little nugget again.

i'd wait the extra days, but i'm pgal so i'm a little more carefull with FB postings.. we probably won't be making a FB announcement untill baby comes. but its totaly up to you.
