Pregnant after IF

What to expect (1st OB appt)?

My first prenatal OB appt is on Monday.  Since I'm so used to be monitored closely, I've been trying to mentally prepare for the change.  I've been writing a bunch of questions I want to ask.  But I was wondering what you all (that have had it) went through at your 1st appt?

Re: What to expect (1st OB appt)?

  • Got weighed, got an order for bloodwork, talked about the NT scan and timing for it, and asked any questions I had about what's ok and what isn't.  I think when I got pg last year, they asked me a bunch of family medical history questions about possible genetic diseases, so they didn't bother repeating that this time since they already had all of it in their file.

  • Pretty much the same as PP.  We had to answer the questions.  They talked about how the practice works and about sharing delivery responsibilities.  Answered our questions.  They also did an exam (like a pap).  It was tough to not see the baby.

Also, don't be disappointed if they don't seem excited that you're pregnant.  After everything we've been through, being pregnant is a huge deal.  It's not that big of a deal to some OBs.  They don't make as big of a deal out of it as the RE's staff does.

    Good luck!

  • They took a urine sample and 4 vials of blood.  Then I was weighed and the nurse asked me a bunch of questions about mine and DH's family medical/genetic history etc... Then she weighed me and took my temp.  After that she had me go into an exam rooma and undress from the waste down, and cover myself with a sheet.  Then she tried to find the heartbeat on doppler (couldn't find it) then my OB came in and tried with the doppler (still couldn't find it).  He did a quick exam (I had a pap 2 days before my IUI that resulted in my BFP so I didn't have a pap).  Then he had me get dressed and sent me into the u/s room (onsite) to have a quick u/s to check the heartbeat.  If they had been able to find the heartbeat with the doppler I would not have had an u/s.

  • I didn't get to see my baby :(.  They found the HB with a doppler, then did a pap, then answered questions.  Then I got sent downstairs for 4 vials of blood.  It's hard not to be disappointed, but we're no longer as special as we were at our REs.

  • I have my first ob appointment tomorrow and was wondering the same thing about if I would have an u/s or not. It just occurred to me yesterday that I might not. I hope they will at least try a doppler and do the u/s if they can't find anything on the doppler.... :-( I want my RE back!!!
