Explain this "me time" to me

So it has been established that I need more time for just me - not a lot but at least some. Where I get out of the house and do something. But what? I don't really have a group or even really one local "friend" I can call up and say hey want to do something.

So what do you do if you have 1-2 hours baby/child free every couple weeks, where you actually get out of the house and do something just for you? On a budget as well.

  • Go get a fancy coffee drink and read at the bookstore.

    Volunteer at an animal shelter.

I taught myself to knit and quill so I can make gifts on a budget for friends/family.

    Visit friends/family.

    Donate blood.

Work out, go for a long walk at a park, or the mall if it's not nice out.

    Yay for free time!

  • Everything raspberry said.  I will go to Target and shop around.  I go to church, get coffee & read in a park (if its nice out).  Clean the house.

You'll find ways to enjoy your "me time" and will come to look forward to it :)

  • Today is my ME day. I am off from work and since the babysitter missed a day last week she offered to work another one this week. I am pumped. I am taking my Kindle to Panera and sitting in a corner and reading the Hunger Games.

When I go home I'll clean, do laundry and cook some food. I also rented a few movies. I might even go get my car cleaned. When I have time to myself I just want to spend it alone and catch up stuff at home.

  • Go to the gym, soak in the tub, have a glass of wine, read a book and grab a latte at a coffee shop...these are all ideas of things for someone on a budget who doesn't know a lot of people.

Another thought is to join some sort of club or take a class for something your interested in.  If that's not in the budget you could also volunteer.  I am not really familiar with it but there's a club/social group called "Meet Up" which involves people getting together and getting to know others.

  •

have a glass of wine, watch a movie uninterrupted, or in my case with a 3 month old, catch up on my sleep.

if you want to socialize and make friends, checkout meetup.com and hopefully you can find groups that share your interests in you area.

  • With the whopping amount of "me" time I get (typically only one or two days a month) I usually spend it doing completely mundane stuff like catching up on laundry, dusting, sweep/mop, mowing the lawn etc.  I wish I had enough me time to actually do something for ME!!

One fun idea is look up local beauty schools in your area.  You can get haircuts, facials, wax jobs, pedicures etc for super cheap -- usually half the price of what a normal salon would cost.  And they have instructors supervising all the students' work.  Department stores will generally do free makeovers/makeup application for customers as well; if I don't feel like buying something I'll say I've got a birthday coming up and want to try out products to put on my wish list (and I always take their cards!)

Also, a lot of gyms and yoga studios will offer great specials for first time customers, like a free week's pass or unlimited monthly classes for a ridiculously low flat fee.  Last year I did a lot of studio-hopping and then found one I really liked.

I've found a bunch of singles groups as well as parent groups on meetup.com.  You can search by interest (i.e. "wine tasting," "french conversation," "dogs," "rock climbing," "ballroom dance" etc) and then it pops up with local groups that have upcoming events happening near you.

  • Sometimes me time includes a glass of wine, my fav yoga pants, and a nice long nap on the couch.

The life of a mom is so luxurious huh? Haha.

If only I could get a day to do nothing but this...ahhh...sounds so nice.

  • I generally only get about a day or two of me time a month, so I haven't gotten to the point where I've run out of things to do.  Usually I do laundry, clean, shave my legs (!!!), sometimes run errands, or get some stuff done that's difficult to do with a toddler around.  Sometimes I'll meet a friend for dinner somewhere cheap, like Subway or Taco Bell, or have a girlfriend over for a few drinks or coffee.  Sometimes, I'll just sit and relax and watch something that I enjoy on TV, or spend a few hours on Pinterest.  I'd like to take a nap someday, but I haven't gotten around to that, yet.  Enjoy your time!
