Re: Brag Day! Brag Day!!

  • I so look forward to these -- both reading, and posting! :)

We were doing an RDI session today. Our next objective for DD1 is for her to look to me (or DH) for guidance when presented with an unfamiliar, confusing situation. That's definitely going to be a challenge for her. Our consultant was trying to demonstrate with some unfamiliar games, but DD1 kept figuring out what she was supposed to do.

I was so proud when  our consultant said her problem-solving skills are almost TOO good. But it's kind of a double-edged sword, because it means that DD1's default is to rely on herself to know everything without having to learn it (at age four!), instead of recognizing that others around her can help & ask for assistance -- and when she can't handle something alone, then she gets awfully frustrated and wants to not even try. So it's kind of a mixed brag.

It reminds me an awful lot of myself as a kid, though. :P

Also, she brings home "play plans" from preschool -- the kids draw themselves, write their names, and put down a sentence (with teacher help) about what they are going to do in their activity centers. Her drawings of herself are getting so much better, and she can write her name pretty well. And it makes me laugh that she always draws herself with a mohawk of hair (which I think is supposed to be a ponytail)!

  • Mine is silly...Our PT comes back from medical leave tomorrow!!! It's been a long 10 weeks with a replacement therapist.  You never realize how "attached" you get to them.  She was a lovely lady and I'm sure a great therapist but it's hard to invest 100% when you know she's leaving soon.  It's amazing how much of your personal lives you end up sharing over the hour every week while you help him walk on the treadmill, etc.
To my boys:  I will love you for you Not for what you have done or what you will become I will love you for you I will give you the love The love that you never knew
  • Amelie is talking! She says "bye bye" and it is the sweetest, most beautiful sound in the world.

  • Ohh, I finally have one!  We have been working on Lilith's oral intake.  Tonight, she ate several maple flavored puffs and half a cookie.  Considering she wasn't taking anything orally 2 months ago, I feel like this is a huge achivement.  Hopefully, it won't be too long until the majority of her nutritional intake is oral.

  • Every night when I put DS to bed I always say "Mommy loves Logan." Tonight I was tucking him in and he said "Mommy."  He very rarely says mommy so I was really excited and said, "Yes, I'm Mommy!" and then he said "loves Logan." Soooo sweet.

  • My DD just turned 2 last week and has started going pee on the potty!  I can't take too much of the credit, my mom is a potty training guru.  Everyone keeps telling her she needs to go on Oprah!  She had my oldest fully trained at 18 months.  I never thought she would have success with Avery this early, but she has gone 4 times this week!

And Avery has started saying some names.  She's been saying Hi for about a month and the other night said "Hi Jen" to my best friend.  She says Hi GG to her great grandmother too.  Now she needs to say Mama!
