M i r e n a removal

I seriously think I am one of the people it doesn't agree with.

Three months tomorrow and I am still bleeding/spotting, I can't shake more baby weight (that fell off so easy last time), I have zero sex drive but what I realized today is I'm just plain mad at the world...for no real reason. I'm not myself right now and want to crawl out of my skin, it's that bad. I have to nip this in the bud. I did some googling and seems a lot of women have experienced this.

Anyway, what happens after removal? Lots more bleeding?  Will my periods start up if I'm still BFing?  I wish it would help my supply go back up but by now it's established and probably set. I know it's not supposed to, but pre-IUD I was pumping 12 oz, post-IUD I'm lucky to get 5 oz.

Can I just get it taken out at my annual you think or do I need to make a separate appointment?  My annual is in 2 weeks.

  • I'm probably not the best person to answer, but I'll chime in. I had mine removed 2 weeks ago tomorrow. I never had any problems with it until recently, though we never could directly confirm they were IUD related. I had mine placed 8 weeks post partum and didn't get my period back until DD was a year. I BF until 16 months and the IUD did not effect my supply at all that I noticed.

I bled really heavily for at least a week after removal. It's slowed down since then. I would think you could have it removed at your annual, but you could always call and check just in case they need to block the dr. more time or anything.

     Good luck!

  • I had mine before I had children so I think that was probably part of my problem but I hated mine and ended up getting it taken out not long after insertion. If I were you, I wouldn't wait two weeks, just call and tell them your issues and ask to be seen ASAP. I don't think there is any point in torturing yourself any longer. After you get it removed though, I would still watch out for signs because it could be ppd and not related to the iud, just a thought. Hopefully you return to normal after it's gone!! My doctor tried to get me to put one in after I had my third but, seriously, I would rather a surprise pregnancy than go through that again :)
  • I agree with pp. Go ahead & call to see if they can get you in sooner. Otherwise, I think they could do it at the annual. I hated my IUD too!

  • Thanks for asking this question!  I have had a lot of the same symptoms and never put together that maybe it is the IUD.  I have just been thinking it was due to stress but I really don't feel like myself either.  I have my annual soon and am going to ask about it.  Since I had to pay for the mirena out of pocket I would hate to waste that money!  Would you mind letting me know if things improve once it's out?
