Any booster recs for low tone kiddos?

So my LO is 3 and 1/2 and we are looking to replace his convertible car seat.  He needs support and the boosters we've looked at don't look all that comfortable.

Anyone want to recommend theirs?  He's 39 lbs and 39 inches tall.

  • just wondering why you want to transition him?  His size would allow him to stay in a 5pt harness.  Since he has low tone it seems like a more comfortable and safe ride.

I wondered that too. Most booster seats are minimum 4 years and 40lbs. My 5 year old still uses a harness because she won't sit properly in a belt only booster. If the convertible is outgrown for height, take a look at a harnessed booster. Low end, try Evenflo Maestro, high end, Graco Nautilus or Britax Frontier.

I would speak to your PT or OT too if you have one, I can't see them recommending a belt only booster for a low tone child who's age, weight and height puts them below the manufacturer's specs (in Canada, there are no boosters for under 4 - not sure about US).

ETA: Just a thought - did you mean a harnessed booster?? Love our Frontier x2, both girls (E & K) can sleep comfortably in theirs.

  • Thanks - yeah sorry I meant a harnessed booster - I wasn't very clear in my post.

  • LOL, I had a duh moment there too and had to come back to edit! I hope I wasn't cranky either, I'm on day ten of a migraine that won't disappear.

Well, if you are interested, the Frontier is on for $239 at BRU right now (US), it is a good deal, or they've got trade and save on, so no matter what, you can get a deal. The Frontier and the Nautilus will be more comfortable than the Maestro, and both will harness longer. I went with the Frontier because it harnessed longer, had better positioning (found the Nautilus to have a forward lean), an easier install and I plain old just liked the ease of use for the harness to be much more user friendly.

All the other harnessed boosters out there won't last near as long. K has outgrown the harness height on all but those three, and she's not 4 or 40lbs yet.
