Gender reveal baby shower

My idea is that finger foods would be served and gifts would be opened.  The people attending the shower would choose the sex they thought the baby might be, maybe have a ribbon or something that indicated it.  At the end, the cake (or cupcakes) would be cut and people would all find out together what the sex of the baby was.  Perhaps the name would be revealed.

The main reason I like this idea is because I don't want to receive a lot of gender specific items.  I would rather get neutral items that I could use from child to child and buy whatever gender specific items I want for the baby myself.

What do you guys think about this type of gender reveal baby shower?

Re: Gender reveal baby shower

  • If I'm given a shower I'd like it to be like this. I may not even hide it, maybe just decorate with either flowers or dinosaurs... we're not into having everything gendered anyway, so all pink or all blue wouldn't really fit.

  • My sister-in-law is an ultrasound tech and she's going to find out the gender and not tell us.  She's going to have a cake made-either pink or blue and we're going to have a reveal party and we'll all find out together.

I heard about someone else who did this and she just had the tech put the gender in an envelope and she brought it to the bakery and had them make the cake so she wouldn't know until they took it out at the party!

  • I think an all in one party is much better than two separate parties.  I also think it's a great way to get more practical items then a whole bunch of pink or blue blankets and onsies.

  • I was at a shower that was this same idea. Instead of the cake though, they handed out confetti poppers to everyone after presents and everyone opened them at the same time and blue streamers popped out! It made for the greatest pictures cause everyone pulled them at once =)

That is so neat! I would love to do something similar, but I'd be so excited, I'd open the envelope right away... ;)

That's why it's a good thing I'm not getting an envelope and I just have to make my SIL promise not to tell me no matter how I torture her! I can see it being VERY hard not to open that envelope...
