I had my first cervical check today and was suprised to find out that I am 3cm and 80% effaced.
Does this mean I will go into labor soon? Or is it true you can be like this for several weeks?
I want baby to take as much time as he needs, but I am excited to know I am making progress.
She said she felt his head and that he was engaged...if that makes a difference? She said the first 4cm are the hardest.
This is my first and I am just getting so excited. The past few weeks have been going by so slow...but just knowing that I made some progress makes things seem so real now.
Re: When will I go into labor? 3cm and 80% effaced.
Everything the pp said, but what does your Dr mean, "the first 4cm are the hardest"?? She's talking about dilation right?
Because, ummm that's not true. Again don't want to be the barer of bad news.
Good luck, hope it all goes smoothly. I'm three days over and feeling very grrr about it.

Yeah, I was laughing at that one too. I don't know how she can say the first 4cm are the hardest. What's so hard about dilating without even realizing it's happening? That is absolutely nothing compared to the last few cm of transition. Those are the hardest.
Ditto PPs, it's completely meaningless. My SIL (both pregnancies) and many of my FB friends were at 3cm starting at 35 weeks and they all had to be induced after 41 weeks. Sorry to say, but you could still have over a month to go.

Don't want to get your hopes up, but with my son I had my first cervical check at 35 weeks, 4 days, and was 3 cm dialated and 80% effaced, and went into labor 2 hours later! (At the hospital filling out our pre-registry paperwork!)
But, judging by all the previous responses, my situations seems like the minority.
Good luck!
