The first time I ever heard this was when they were claiming Kate Middleton was pregnant because she was avoiding peanuts.
Personally, I couldn't stand the sight of nuts when I was pregnant with DD (poor DH) and I have a feeling I'm getting the same aversion this pregnancy, so I don't think it will be an issue for me.
Some doctors say avoid it, but I've also read that if you don't eat allergen foods your child is more likely to be allergic to them. You're baby is sharing everything in your body right now, so I guess that probably also means your non-allergies.
My baby makes me crave peanut butter... so I eat peanut butter.
I'm eating plenty of it. I've heard different "research" say to eat them and some say to avoid. Who knows. The latest things I read talked about avoiding lotions with peanut oil after the baby is born but it's not something I spent much time losing sleep over. I know nut allergies can be severe but there's just nothing conclusive out there. DD ate nut butters at 12 months under the encourage of my pediatrician as a good source of protein since she didn't like meats. Others say avoid giving it to them until age 2 or 3. Do whatever you think sounds right to you on this one.
Yes and it's super awesome and specific info. Something along the lines of...If you eat too many peanut products (although they are unsure what amount is "too much," your child may have peanut allergies. If you do not eat enough peanut products, and again, unsure of how much is "enough" your child will have peanut allergies.
Yep, GL with that! I just eat what I want. They have no clue what causes what.
Could be totally unrelated...but I ate PB on toast throughout my whole first semester with DS#1. He now has a severe peanut allergy....Nobody in my family does. So...I'm steering clear of it. Then again, we don't even have it in the house anymore because of his allergy.

Great info! Thanks ladies! Great to have forums like these to quell our concerns. I won't lose sleep over it. I don't always crave peanut butter, but a good PBJ certainly does the trick sometimes!
I don't think it leads to allergies. I think you are either going to get them or not.
Granted I won't be eating any peanut products during pregnancy because my DS is anaphalactic-level allergic to them, and I did eat them during his pregnancy...but I still don't think they are related.
I especially don't think it is an issue because some of DS's food allergies showed up when I was exclusively breastfeeding. I wasn't able to eat dairy, eggs, fish, and several other things for the first year because he'd get so sick. Peanuts were never a problem via breastmilk. Now his only food allergies are dairy and peanuts.

This. Mmmmm.... it's all I want lately with this pregnancy, too! PB and citrus smoothies (not together, ha ha!).

Don't stress too much about things like that.

It's totally fine. My nutritional counselor says its a great protein choice (the all-natural PB, of course).

Oh I'm sure it is fine to eat, but me, I cannot stand the look, smell, taste or sight of it in my house. It makes me gag just thinking about it.
By far the only thing that has done that too me so far.
(ps this is my first post and first pregnancy! Love reading everyone's advice!)
