So, I went to my weekly OB appt. (everything else is fine... HB in the 140s, insulin pump approved by insurance, A1C is 6, which is perfect!) and discussed my horrendous cramping due to constipation. I know it's constipation because I totally feel like my butt is going to explode off, that's how backed up I am. I told her I've started drinking more water to see if that helps, but nothing yet. I'm lucky to poo a little bit once every three days or so, which I know, constipation is completely normal during pregnancy, but I finally broke down and asked what I could take for it.
When I got home, I finally felt like I needed to poo, but only one little rabbit turd came out and when I wiped... blood. My first reaction was that I was spotting, but then I realized it was from my rear. Hemorrhoid came to mind. I've heard you can get them from straining to poo, which has definitely been the case.
I was really hoping to avoid this during pregnancy, but I'm afraid I'm not going to. Has anyone else had this problem or had it during a previous pregnancy and what did you do? TIA!
Re: I think I might have a little friend... (TMI)
Sounds like typical pregnancy constipation and bleeding related to hemmrhoids. You can take over the counter Miralax or Colace. Eat plenty of fiber and get lots of water.
~ Miscarry at 8 weeks with D&C in May 2011 (low progesterone).
~ Had a healthy baby girl in June 2012 via C-Section (on prometrium to sustain).
~ Surprise pregnancy at age 40! Baby boy due April 26, 2021 (took prometrium to sustain once pregnancy was confirmed, 3rd C-Section planned).
I had this 4/5 weeks ago- as PP said, it's typical if you get constipated so the easy answer is don't.
Eat more fiber, drink more water. I had to make a conscience effort to drink more water- I felt like I was desert training, I just kept thinkg "HYDRATE!" and downing a bottle of water every few hours.
I did try the fiber pills with the mild laxative in them for a week or so- it lead to some, umm, squishy results, but that worked while I got my diet and dirnking habits under control. Now I eat a big plate salad every day- lunch or dinner- and drink about 2 liters of water a day.Haven't had a problem since.

I had constipation and hemorrhoids terribly during my first trimester, and what really helped me was staying very hydrated, and taking a fiber supplement each day, sometimes twice a day. And trying to eat a very green diet- full of fruits and veggies.
As for the 'roids- Tucks pads, preparation H, and sitz baths really helped me. And trying to not irritate them when wiping (gross, I know!).
So sorry to hear you are going through this- it was by far the worst part about my 1st tri. I hope it goes away quickly.
I'm sorry but this made me laugh hysterically. Hope you feel better soon!
LOL! No worries... My DH and OB both laughed when I told them. It's the only why I could explain it!

There are actually prenatals that have stool softeners in them
If you ask your doc then you won't have to skip. This will actually work for everyone who is having an issue. My midwife offered them to me and I've been free and clear ever since
