Our cooking ebbs and flows. When L works from home/comes home early and makes dinner, the kids more or less eat what we eat. We do try to have at least something on the menu that they like (pasta/fruit/chicken.) Sometimes we do sub out proteins (ie. neither kid likes red meat.)
Carter is a very picky eater and not willing to try new things. Honestly getting him to eat a green bean can be a 10m ordeal and I am not willing to get in power struggles with them re: food.
On nights we don't cook a family meal, the kids eat whatever we have on hand (typical kid food) and we eat cereal/frozen meal/etc. This is more common when one of us isn't home for dinner (typically L is working late) and I don't usually eat with the kids. They eat at the kitchen island while I unpack their lunch boxes/go through the homework folder, talk about their day, etc. Then I eat while they watch their 30m of tv before bed or after they go to sleep. I honestly am not hungry until everything calms down a bit in our house.
Ideally we would all sit down to a freshly made meal and have a nice family meal. But with us getting home at 6pm 4 nights a week and 7p the other, it is a challenge.
ETA: Before they were about 3y, they ate anything and everything. 3y is when they became uber picky (it also coincides when they started going to PK and we started getting home later due to pick ups) Hmmm. I would love to get them to eat veggies again. We try and offer...but no dice.
We all eat together. We pretty much always offer Gwen what we are eating, and she normally eats mostly what we have. But we always have yogurts in the fridge in case something isn't a hit, and we normally have a grilled chicken breast too.
Maybe I don't have a heightened sense of smell, but I've never smelled any vagina on my pants. -- TSD
Do you make a seperate meal for them?Almost never. Personally I don't believe in it. Nor do I have the time or energy to make two meals. With BLW, DD has been eating things like crab cakes, polenta, curry, edemame, etc, since before she was twelve months old. She eats what I eat.
However - I will alter the main dish slightly for her. For example, last night was a quick dinner for turkey and cheese roll ups (baked in croissants). BabyT*T had turkey, cheese, and edamame. I had turkey, artichoke hearts, and blue cheese. BabyT*T loves blue cheese but not artichoke hearts, thus hers was a bit different.
Do you eat at a different time than they do? Not really. Usually she is 1/2 way done with her dinner though by the time I start. And sometimes I'm just not hungry at that time so I'll wait to eat until after she goes to bed.

Very rarely a seperate meal. The only time it is different is if we are eating seperate and that ONLY happens when DW works really late (like 8 or after) one or two nights a week. Sometimes then it is the same meal only she eats it before us.
Unfortunately, I get home late-ish most nights, so the three of us can't eat together. On weekends, J eats what we eat. On weeknights, he eats what we'll be eating, what we had the night before, or soup/yogurt. We always have soup and yogurt on hand in the unlikely event he doesn't like what we have. That doesn't happen often, though - like baby T*T, J has been eating what we eat since he showed an interest in food, minus dairy until it was proven he didn't have a dairy allergy.

We typically eat at least a portion of what they are eating (if we cooked). They love pasta and a variety of vegetables so we have a tendency to wait to see how much they eat before we have a larger portion. Also, the protein of choice in our house is chicken breast...I need more of a variety, so there are meals that I may have that are different from theirs.
Do you eat at a different time than they do? If the Kiddos finish their meal before C and I do, we generally wrap things up and finish our meal after bedtime.
We try to all eat together and have the same thing. We do make some modifications for the kids--level of spice, soft shell instead of hard, no peanut butter (yet) for Lex, etc. But (so far) the kids are really good and adventurous eaters.

For the most part, E and I eat the same things. She has become a lot more adventurous in the past 8-10 months and has made a point of telling me that she will try new things. She actually LOVES fish and not just fish sticks mind you, like grilled salmon. That still amazes the heck out of me! We usually eat at the same time, though I get her started before I do since she's a slow eater with all the distractions and chattering.
