if you had really nice dresses to sell, where would you do so?

I'm loathe to list them on ebay, knowing I won't get jack for them.  And yes, I know they're my used dresses, but one of them I only wore for about 5 hours.  I've kept them nicely and they're both gorgeous.

Any ideas where I can get more money for them?

  • Consignment stores? I think there's one called Designer Exchange and I'm sure there are others.  I don't know much about taking clothes there though.

  • If you can't find somewhere to make decent money on them, I'd donate to the prom dress places. I took some bridesmaid dresses to one before we moved. They give the dresses, shoes, bags etc to girls with low incomes.

It won't make you any moolah, but it'll make you feel good inside :)

Designer Ex cha nge will consign for you - you don't get the money unless it sells, and they usually only get 25% of retail value (if that) and you get a smaller portion of that. The consignment period is 3 months if it doesn't sell then you have to pick it up, or forfeit it.

  • I'd guess you'd get more on CL than anywhere else. I sold some maternity jeans that I'd paid almost $300 for (choke!), for $130 and I felt like that was a good deal.

  • I don't know the rules about trying to sell your stuff on the nest/bump, but is it possible someone here would be interested?
  • I've actually had really good luck selling on ebay lately - though it probably depends on style, season and age of the garment. You could list it with a minimum bid price that's to your liking, and just list with the free options. No big loss there.:)
