What did you do with kids? Did you get a Nanny? Seems like everything I look at that ends up being cheaper. I will have a 19 month old PLUS the trips when I go back to work. (Staying home is not an $$ option- nor would I want to be a SAHM)
I think it depends where you live. Where we live, daycare is cheap, so that was the better option for us. I know several people with HOMs that have au pairs. If you have room for someone else, that might be an option?
nanny for ~20 hours a week and then my parents do about 10 hours. I work 20-25 hours and have 30 hours of childcare per week so I have extra time to shower/do errands/whatever.

A lady in my moms of multiples club ended up getting two aupairs. She let them figure out the scheduling between the two of them, and it worked out well. Personally, I think that could be messy, but it worked well for her.
We have a nanny. I didnt really research daycares around me but I'm pretty sure the nanny is cheaper but for me the biggest advantage is the convienance factor. Not having to rush around to get the trio out the door in the morning makes our life MUCH easier!! We also considered an au pair but I didn't want someone living with us and having to worry about them driving our car or getting another car for the au pair to use.

My DH stays home - he lost his job back in July before babies but that was the plan the whole time b/c of my salary/benefits/etc. He has his mom or dad or a neighbor come over during the day to help out with feedings, but other than that He's SUPER DAD! Daycare in home or out would be really $$$ and not worth him working.

I'm not going back for a few months but we are doing a hybrid approach. Our 2 year old is going to stay full time in daycare and we will be getting a nanny for the triplets. I couldn't take the 2 y.o. out of school, she loves it and I think it's great to be around kids her age. It's an expensive option though.
