Do you have a game plan? I'm torn between doing it now and getting it over with or waiting until he can understand giving it to other babies. He really doesn't use it during the day, unless he is super upset, but I don't what him to get more dependent on it.
Re: If you are planning on ditching the paci at 1
I am planning on phasing out the paci at 1 year. He did stop taking the bottle through the night and started sleeping through the night all on his own. But I can see an attachment to the paci. He loves to play with them when he wakes up in the morning. He will play in his crib happily for about 30 min after he wakes up.
My game plan is to start with no more bottle at bed time and then tackle the paci. I plan on cutting it to only giving it at nap and bed time. Then when we get comfy with that, I will take it away at bed time, then nap time. I am hoping to have it gone by June. He turns 1 in March.
If at any point he is extremely unsettled with out the paci (for a few days), I will give it back to him and wait a bit. If he is not ready, I will not force him.
DD only gets the paci in her crib to fall asleep, and I usually keep one in the car because we take lots of car trips during which she needs to fall asleep, too.
I plan to start weaning her off it at 13m (we have a cruise at like 12.5m so I'm not doing anything before then). I'll start by just giving her one in the crib instead of the 5-6 I throw in there now. She's good at putting herself to sleep and sleeps 12-13 hours straight, so I'm not too worried. If she hasn't self-weaned off the paci by 1.5y, I'll take it away entirely.
