Re: *~* Sleep Training Check In *~*

  • 1.  Completely starting (full overnight) this weekend (I think...I won't be able to follow the nap schedule on Saturday becuase we now have plans).

    2.  13 minutes!!! I was so surprised.  He's a bink baby, and he wouldn't keep it in last night, so I let him fuss and see what he'd do.  Went in at the 5 min check, he calmed when he saw/heard me, then fussed again for 7 minutes, and SILENCE Big Smile.

    3.  A few, 2 feedings, and some for a bink.  I didn't write them down though, I was a zombie and DH was out cold.  I didn't do the CIO for wakeups.

    5.  I clipped coupons lol, DH was doign the dishes.

I'm just still praying that this is right for us, that it helps us, and that we can get some consistency before we go back to PA to visit in a few weeks.

    1) Day number/Start date

    3

    2) Length of time crying before LO fell asleep

approx 30 minutes (I don't have my paper in front of me.)

    3) Any wakeups

    10, 2, and 6 am

    4) Dreamfeed/regular feeding

all three wakeups were regular feedings

    5) What you did to stay busy and not cry

    nothing.

    6) Any challenges/questions/concerns

My mom was here and at 2 am offered to help with LO. DD slept so well because mom gave her her paci!!! I'm so upset. She went to sleep without it and was doing great all night without it and then mom gave it to her because "she was wide awake at 2 am after she was fed but as soon as I gave her her binky she went right to sleep"

    7) Progress Update/Successes

She did great, but I think it had something to do with getting her binky.

  • 1) Day number/Start date: night 2 6:15-6:15, DD was so exhausted last night, couldn't keep her up any longer

    2) Length of time crying before LO fell asleep: 10 min

    3) Any wakeups: 7:40 (cried for a long time but finally fell back asleep, 12am to eat

    4) Dreamfeed/regular feeding: regular at 12am

    5) What you did to stay busy and not cry: caught up on emails. DH was freaking out and had to go to bed

    6) Any challenges/questions/concerns: already posted about my quesiton re: waking and feeding, will try to wake her earlier tonight to feed her; DH is on board during the day but when he hears DD crying, he gets all upset and starts questioning everything. It makes me feel like a horrible mom and person b/c I feel like i'm "doing this" to my baby. It's so hard to hear her cry. I want DH to read the books so I don't have to be the one that imparts the information and then gets questioned about it constantly but then he doesn't get around to it...that is another post, I guess.

Also- have noticed that our checking on DD makes things 50x worse, she gets all worked up when she sees us. So have been doing it less and less b/c it doesn't seem to help her.

    7) Progress Update/Successes: after her initial wake up, slept 5 hours until her first feed and 6 hours after. Still seemed tired this morning.

Also trying to sleep train around naps and she finally just fell alseep after 30 min of crying. There is alot of crying going on in this house.

  • Pantone, I know you said there's a lot of crying going on in your house - but I just wanted to say I struggled with naps yesterday and there was a ton of crying too - but I stuck to my guns. They'll get it - it's hard but it just takes time.

    1) Day number/Start date Night 8 (7:10pm - 6:50am)

    2) Length of time crying before LO fell asleep No crying! :-)

    3) Any wakeups  4am typical - to eat

    4) Dreamfeed/regular feeding 4am - regular feeding

    5) What you did to stay busy and not cry Watched Teen Mom (no crying though)

    6) Any challenges/questions/concerns Naps yesterday were a nightmare. The book suggests this age (4-6mos) stay up for 2 hours between waking up in the morning, and their first nap. She usually lasts barely an hour; I tried to stretch it to 1hr 15 min and it BACKFIRED!

She cried the entire 45 minute nap - I got her out of her crib after the 45 minutes, as the book suggests and we tried again in an hour.  Unfortunately - because she missed that first nap - it had a domino effect on the rest of her day (her other naps svcked!) and she was CRANKY until she went to bed last night.  Worst day in a while... but thankfully didnt ruin her going down for bed that night.  She went down easy peasy. Phew.

    7) Progress Update/Successes She's a champ going down at night - and if she wakes up - she talks to herself for a minute and then goes right back to sleep. Whereas before - she'd cry until I rocked her back to sleep. I love this!

  • thanks JK- just had a talk with our pediatric nurse and she said the same thing you did. I almost caved and gave her the pacifier, but DH told me to call the nurse before I did anything and I'm glad I did. DD's in there crying now for her second nap, I hope she gets to sleep faster this time. Last time she cried for 30 but slept for 40 min, the most in the last few days.

Like the nurse said, it's only been 3 days...in the grand scheme of things it's not very long. It's so much harder when you're living it! She said that it's much harder for the parents right now than the babe...
