Bummed I'm missing his first bottle :(

Denver has finally shown some interest in bottle feeding (he's 34 weeks gestation now).  We were able to put some drops in his mouth with his pacifier today to get him used to the taste, while sucking and breathing.  He did great with that, but he was too wiped out from an eye exam to try at his last feeding before I left today.  They said they'd try tonight and I'm bummed I'll miss it.

  • did they check with you first? one overnight nurse tried 5ml with him right at 34wks and i was so upset as was his primary day nurse, but mostly cause he wasnt ready. he didnt get another one for another week or so and his nurses made sure we were there for it.

  • Just pretend the first time you get to do it is the first time.  I was personally ecstatic when I found out the overnight tried to give my son a bottle and he took an ounce.  I was not upset that I missed something because the first time I gae him a bottle felt like it was his first time to me.  I was so happy they had finally gotten him to take a bottle that I did not care who or how- I just knew it was a big step forward and I was so happy for the milestone.

  • We had a rule that it only counted as a "first" if we did it. So even though she had several baths with the nurses, DD's "first bath" is the one my DH did when she was a little over a month old.
