We did this last summer and really enjoyed: -- the riverwalk boat tour -- getting drinks at the Tower of the Americas -- touring the Japanese Tea Gardens (some bits were under construction, but still lovely) -- night cap in the Hyatt Grand's bar before heading to bed -- having brunch at Candlelight Coffeehouse [we talked with the owner, and he was so very nice!] (https://www.yelp.com/biz/candlelight-coffeehouse-san-antonio)
I'm not rec'ing any other restaurants because our experience at almost all of them was sort of "meh."
Have fun!!

I rarely have been to SA but when I went for a friends birthday party we went to 20 Nine Wine Bar in the Quarry. It was super nice (we were sitting beside Tony Parker and then wife Eva Longoria) the food was great and the prices not terrible. I would definitely go there again.
Definitely have to do a boat tour on the River Walk. The boat tours are looked on the river by the mall. Many great restaurants downtown so you really can't go wrong. My favorite is Rosario's on St. Mary's street. If you are in SA by Friday evening go to First Friday. It's held once a month on South Alamo St. They have art galleries and booths from some fantastic local artists. And because everything is a party in SA plenty of bars in the area. If you venture out of downtown you have to eat at Los Barrios, the original one not the one way north off of 1604.
Mi Tierra has been one of my favorite restaurants since I was a kid. It's classic Tex-Mex, they have the best Mexican pan dulce ever (try the pink ones- so flaky and good), and there is an altar to Selena that makes me misty every time and a mural of famous Mexican-Americans that we love to show the girls. Have a drink at the beautiful wood-filled bar first.
I went to college in San Antonio. We went to the zoo all the time because it is so close. We always had fun but remember it is a small private zoo so animal enclosures are super small. Shopping at the quarry or la canterra is always fun. You can always wander around the riverwalk. You can take a boat ride around the river as well.
Last time we went to San Antonio we stayed at the JW Marriott. It was awesome. Great pools, DH got to golf, so much fun.
As for restaurants, my are my favorites: Chris Madrids (yummy greasy hamburges), Budros, Mi Tierra, Biga on the Banks, The Lodge (very expensive but awesome), Mad Hatters (cute tea shop), Twin Sisters (awesome little cafe, great for vegetarias), Paesanos (pretty good italian, on the river and in quarry), La Peep (yummy brunch), La Fonda....I think i spent most of college eating!!!!

When we stayed on the Riverwalk we stayed at hotel Valencia.
You have to walk the riverwalk or do a boat tour if you have never been.
There is always the Alamo for history nerds like you
We love the botanical gardens there.
The zoo is great, but I haven't been since I was a kid.
Sea World is fun.

We eat at Boudro's every time we go to San Antonio. Yum!
That's my favorite place for lunch. They have an incredible crab salad and tableside guac.
Acenar and Biga on the Banks are both really great dinner spots.
The Japanese Tea Gardens over by the zoo are neat and fun as well.
Aww, geez! How could I have forgotten The Alamo! ::turns in TX residency card::
