Cruising toward IVF -- anyone else cycling in March or April?

I met with my RE today (not about yesterday's false positive -- it was a previously scheduled appointment).  I mostly had a few quick questions to ask about IUI timing, DHEA, odds and ends like that.  I have to say that I really, really like my RE -- every time I meet with her she gives me plenty of time, is open to my suggestions, explains things thoroughly and without dumbing them down,  and helps me move along quite quickly -- often even more quickly than I've dared hope for.  What's really great is that she's also at a really strong practice (NYU) you'd expect to be more like a factory -- so it's great to have those resources and still get personal attention.  I've had a really good experience there so far.  (Yes, I know this reads like an ad -- but it's true and makes a real difference in my optimism and comfort level.)

Today was no exception.  One of the things I asked her about was how many more IUIs she'd recommend before moving to IVF.  I'm at the end of IUI cycle #2, and she basically said I could do anywhere between 1 and 4 more, but that there are usually diminishing returns after ~ 3 total.  I asked her what I needed to start doing soon to begin getting my ducks in a row for IVF.  After explaining the whole process and explaining pros and cons of things like ISCI, she sat me down right away with the program coordinator so I could get on the March calendar if I wanted to do it straightaway after my next IUI.  Not sure yet if I'll do March or April (assuming my next IUI or two fail -- I haven't lost hope yet) -- I might take a break cycle after February or try a fourth IUI, but I'm happy to have the option of diving straight in in March.  My RE said she saw no reason why I wouldn't be able to expect to get 10 or 12 eggs at retrieval.  Obviously no guarantee but I'm glad she seems optimistic about how I'll respond.

So -- IF sucks and going through treatments sucks but at least I feel like I'm fulfilling my 2012 resolution of all systems go, no more wasting time.

Anyone else think they'll be doing IVF in March or April?

Re: Cruising toward IVF -- anyone else cycling in March or April?

  • I will be dong IVF in March/April.

I'll start BCP with my next cycle scheduled to start around 2/27 which would have me on stims in late March and an ER around the first week of April.

I had the same diminishing return on IUI conversation with my RE. His opinion was that it would eventually work, but what what cost (physically and emotionally). I decided I need something more concrete with better odds so on to IVF.

    Good luck with your decision.

  • It looks like my plan is to be on the same schedule as you.  I do one more IUI in February but I have lost confidence that it will work.  That would put my IVF in the March/April time frame.  Hopefully our last IUIs will work and we don't need these plans.

  • I am, assuming my acupuncturist was wrong about this cycle :) I should be starting BCP at the end of this week or early next. I guess that's February, but it will still be going in March. Good luck to all the Feb/March/April IVF ladies!

  • Looking forward to cycling with those of you who are going around the same time!  Though obvs I hope we all get KU in February to avoid the whole thing.  ;-)

    ::butting in::

Just wanted to mention that a friend of mine had a great experience working with NYU-- they helped her get her DS in spite of DOR issues after several failed IVF's at another clinic.  I hope you don't need to resort to IVF, but you're definitely in good hands there.  Good luck!

ETA:  And best of luck to the other ladies cycling too!  Still keeping my fingers crossed for all of you!

  • Sounds wonderful! Good luck...and stay positive about your IUI cycle...it could work! Who is your RE at NYU?

Who is your RE at NYU?

    F.ino.

  • Having a great RE is so so important in all this!

We are looking at FET#2 in early April. I will have a better idea of the suppression schedule in a few weeks, once CD1 arrives. Although I still hold out hope for a surprised BFP. Smile  And hope you don't have to worry about cycling in March/April either!
