Has the doctor given your DC pain relief meds for ear infection?

My son is on his second ear infection in 3 weeks. He hasn't slept well in 3 weeks. We believe it is from the pain because he screams when he lays down and wants to sit up to sleep. He has been on advil and tylenol now every 4 hours for 5 days. He wakes up 5 hours into advil screaming and then wakes every few hours the rest of the night 12 am-6 am. He will do that 1-5 times.
We are exhausted and I have called the pedi to ask for more hardcore meds for pain. Anyone have to do this and if so, what did they give you if anything?
Of course I called the pedi almost 2 hours ago with no return call yet. twats

All three of mine have tubes and it sounds like that's where you are headed. They are a godsend. Infant Motrin lasts up to 8 hours and it always works well with my kiddos. It's so hard to see them in pain. Not that you asked for an opinion but, the tubes will alleviate his pain immediately...they should be required at birth, imo. GL-
ETA-try alternating the motrin and tylenol every three hours during the day.

I know dh's nephew had to have tubes in his ears because they got so bad (then he never had another one)

I'm assuming he's on an antibiotic? If he's been on it for more than 2 or 3 days and the infection is still bad enough to cause him that much pain he needs something different. Two of DD1's 6 infections had to be treated by a second round of meds before she started feeling better. She also ended up with tubes which have been fantastic, no ear infections in the 8 months they've been in.

Yeah, he was on zithromax 2 weeks ago and he is on another one now. Started last night, so he has had 2 doses. I don't want him to be in pain and I want to sleep, I miss sleep.
I was just hoping there was something else out there that we could give him for the pain. However, the pedi isn't calling back so I guess they aren't interested in helping. I have called twice now, biotches.

Also, yes I agree if this continues for the sake of everyone's (LO included because he is insane, pissy, mad, in pain right now) he will need to get tubes. While the thought of that gives me anxiety I am not sure how much more any of us can handle never sleeping. He screams so loud it wakes the entire house. I wanted to get a hotel last night after I threw a tantrum myself. It's bad.

Yes. Ask for these. Our DCP told me that her son had some ear infections as a teenager and swore by the drops. He said they helped almost immediately and worked much better than motrin/tylenol.
Numbing ear drops and Tylenol with Codeine. The codeine was basically to get her to function until her tube surgery.
ETA: the ENT wouldn't prescribe the codeine, only her pediatrician would.
I'd give the antibiotic a few days to work then, but ask about the ear drops the other ladies mentioned.
The thought of surgery for tubes made me incredibly anxious, too, but it was so quick and so easy. She was back to herself just a few hours afterwards. Very worth it!
