NIP on airplane tips?

In a few weeks I'm going to be flying to Boston from Kansas City with just LO. I have a window seat but I'm nervous about how to nurse her without flashing my neighbor a nipple. DD and I both hate our nursing cover which complicates things. If anyone had any tips I would really appreciate it!!

  • Just nurse your baby.  You can turn away a bit to get LO latched on, but honestly if anyone is looking at you that closely, then it is their problem.

  • I flew four times this month. I sat on the window and no one even seemed to notice when I nursed. I find that nursing covers suck. I use a Aden Anais swaddle blanket as a cover. I basically throw it over my head, latch him, then take it off. Once he is latched you can't see anything. Maybe you could try that?

ETA: I didn't use a cover on the plane.

    This.

I nursed DS on a plane and it was really no big deal.  The people around me either weren't paying attention in the first place, or looked away to give me some privacy when I was getting him latched on.  I never use a cover when I NIP, so I didn't on the plane either.

  • The only times I've really NIP have been on a plane, so I felt more comfortable using a cover.  It definitely isn't necessary though.

If you and your LO are not comfortable with a cover but you want some coverage, would you feel better with one of those tops with hidden panels?  I have these tops and they're great for giving you coverage without completely covering LO:

I also nursed during take-off because it helps LO with the cabin pressure and most people were distracted at that time and less likely to pay attention to me.

THIS, exactly!!!!  The Aden Anais blankets are great...  large enough to cover when you need to and less cumbersome than a "hooter hider."  :)

  • With baby #1 I had to nurse on a plane, and borrowed a friend's Hooter Hider.  I got on the plane first (because of traveling with a baby) and got started before anyone really was around to even notice.  Window seat is definately smart, I was supposed to have an aisle but that would have been a pain.
  • Just do what you've got to do. Strangely, DS was fine with take offs and landing but howled on the runway. You never know who you'll be sitting beside - I did have my mom with me, but with 3 of us in a row I was always a bit worried about person #3. Turns out the guy that had the saddest of our flights in my row... had baby twins at home. Everyone was pretty nice to me about everything.
  • I use my Boppy and Bebe Au Lait. LO eats and/or sleeps on the Boppy for most of the flights I've done. I'm barely comfortable NIP with the cover, so I definitely would not be comfortable doing it without one. I think Boppy makes a travel-sized pillow and would suggest one of those. The regular Boppy is a bit too wide. I always kind of sheepishly apologize to the people next to me, but everyone I've ever sat next to has been super nice about it. The best was the cowboy: "Aw shoot, that's the way I was raised. Ain't no shame in it!"
