Indian food?

Hey all! Quick question.  My H and I are visiting family this weekend, and we'll be hitting up an Indian buffet that is an in-law family favorite.  Is Indian food okay to eat, and is there anything I should avoid? I tried googling but it wasn't the most definitive thing...thanks! :)

  • I love Indian food and have eaten it several times PG with no issues. One thing you may want to watch is paneer - it's a soft Indian cheese. I have eaten it PG but if you're avoiding soft cheese you may want to watch for that.

  • Paneer was the only thing I could think of that you might choose to avoid.

  • Sweet! I'm excited.  It's funny because the last time I was there I was newly pregnant (like not even 100% sure I was) and I LOVED it like I had loved nothing else before.  I mean, it was always decent, but man...so maybe my body loves it during pregnancy, haha.

It's also weird that I went out for veggie sushi this past weekend and although sushi is one of my all-time faves, my body did NOT like that one.  So I guess stuff changes! :)

  • Sure, Indians eat it all the time, they just call it "food"! :)

If its not the most culturally familiar genre of food for you, just stick to what agreed with you pre-pregnancy. If you ate lots of it and had a high tolerance for spice, coconut, etc, you should be fine doing the same thing now - and vice versa.

  • Had Indian for lunch yesterday, including paneer. Yum :)

  • I eat tons of Indian food.  I usually order mattar paneer- never even thought about the soft cheese thing, but since it's served cooked, I doubt even that would be a problem.

Seeing as how thousands of babies are born in India each day, Indian cuisine is just fine. As with any meal, apply standard common sense: make sure it's fresh, thoroughly cooked, clean, etc.
  • i'd be more concerned about the germ buffet than the type of food in this instance.

  • This Indian food fanatic is totally jealous!  Eat a piece of naan for me, ok?  :)
