September 2012 Moms

so who else can't poo?

Come in, constipated ones.  The Zofran is KILLING ME.  What are your tricks?  Here's what I'm doing, and it's helping, but I'm definitely still struggling a bit and open to more remedies:

-small cup of coffee in the morning

-fiber one bar for breakfast and snack

-metamucil caplets (3-5/day)

  • I have gone three times today~!Surprise I ate three fiber one muffins over about a 4 hour period (they're not huge) that I made at home. Thank God because I haven't gone in about a week.

  • The title of this thread cracked me up...but it is very true.  I'm having a harder time than normal and I'm not even on Zofran

  • (prunes) and whole oranges have been helping (with as much of the white part of the peel as possible). It's full of fiber AND the citric taste helps ease my tummy!
  • Haha...I have been horribly constipated.  I'm just trying to eat a ton of fruit and vegetables to get me through this.

  • I am not on Zo, but just this week the constipation and bloat kicked in.

  • I am right there with you! I haven't had too much success with my techniques, but I am taking Colace 2x/day, eating as much fibrous fruits and vegetables as I can (including the dried fruit that shall not be named), and I've just started taking fiber capsules too.

If you're not already taking Colace, it's worth a shot. I wasn't going AT ALL before I started it. Now I at least manage a few marbles a day.

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one with that experience! I was so embarrassed.

I'm taking 2 colace/day and drinking tons of water. I can't really stomach a lot of fruits and veggies, but I try. Maybe I should make some Bran muffins :(

  • I am trying colace and apples and high fiber cereal but no luck so far. I havent been this constipated in a long time and I am not even taking Zofran either. I hope it gets better over the pregnancy. This might be a stupid question but can anyone tell me where to find (the fruit that shall not be named) juice? I looked in walmart the other day and couldnt find it. Glad to know im not alone in this one.

  • Well, misery does love company.  I didn't ever have this issue with my first two (the opposite, actually) and this is NOT OKAY.  Like I have time to spend an hour on the toilet with two kids running around.  @$%^$%&@$%&&

The juice of the fruit that shall not be named could probably be found at a health food store - Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, etc?  Good luck!

Oh, no, girlfriend.  You are not alone.  The u/s tech actually had to try to massage my lower belly to move the poo around.  WHILE the wand was still up my hoo-hah.  It was just so very magical.

  • So the baby must already be stealing my brain power. Hubby and I went to Harris Teeter just a few minutes ago and we found the juice in the juice isle on the bottom shelf. We also got Activia and colace. Hopefully between the 3 my eyes will be a little less brown in the near future.

  • I sorta go every once in a while with lots of pain and crying. :( Zofran is the best and worst thing ever. I'm so sick even WITH the zofran that I haven't been able to keep on top of stuff that would help, so I don't know what I'm going to do.

Taking lots of fiber and magnesium. Drinking prune juice when I can. Eating lots of fruit and veggies when I can. Ugh.

  • me too :(  And I'm not on Zofran. I confess I haven't really been making a very good effort to combat the constipation thus far because while I have citrucel in my cupboard just the thought of choking down a tall glass of water with citrucel mixed in makes me want to gag. The thought of coffee in the morning was making me nauseated, but I took a gamble today and got a decaf vanilla latte from Starbucks and it went down just fine (does that count in helping or does it have to be straight coffee?). I KNOW I need to drink more water, like LOTS more water, my lips are so chapped because I'm dehydrated. Maybe I'll dig around in my bathroom drawer for some colace and see if that helps.  I can't believe you people who can stomach fruits and veggies right now with m/s. I threw out almost 2 lbs of salad in my fridge the day my m/s started because looking at it was making me sick. Ew. No to fruits and veggies right now. But maybe I can get some of those fruits in a smoothie... hmmm.  Good idea on the fiber one bars, I had a bowl of FiberOne cereal this morning. The Fiber Oatmeal (Quaker) worked REALLY well before I got pg so maybe try that? If you can stomach the texture of oatmeal right now (barf).
