what size bag are you planning to pack?

I had assumed that I'd travel light going to the hospital since it'll likely be a one night stay, but I've seen packing list that suggest 2 pillows, a boppy, and a kitchen sink! It would appear to me the one would need two large steamer trunks for all these things! What are you packing in?

Re: what size bag are you planning to pack?

  • I was thinking a small-medium sized duffel bag for mine and DH's personal items (ie: clothes, toiletries, iPod, etc...) and then he would probably carry my pillow and nursing pillow in...basically whatever he can carry in his arms in one trip!

  • I was thinking of bringing 2 overnight/carry on sized bags. One for mainly stuff for my husband and stuff we'll need during labor, and the other for me for my stay in the hospital.

  • I  haven't packed it yet, but I have a duffel bag I use for sleep overs and it always holds all my stuff just fine. I plan to use that. I will probably bring my pillow too, but I figure H can carry it, it doesn't need shoved in my bag.

  • I think i'll pack my gym bag which is I'd say a medium sized duffle bag.  I don't plan on bringing a pillow or anything... it just grosses me out bringing my own pillow to a hospital maybe cause i've worked in hospitals and find them really dirty and germy lol I've just started my list and I plan on bringing clothes (mostly yoga pants/nursing tanks), slippers, laptop, toiletries.  We live 15 minutes from hospital so if i'm missing something DH can always drive home and get it for me.

  • I'll probably bring my LL Bean large tote bag for my/baby's stuff, and have DH carry the pillows in.  For DH, we'll probably just pack a toothbrush and maybe a clean tshirt/pants in my bag.  We live ~5 min from the hospital, so I'm guessing he'll run home and shower/change at some point rather than doing all of that in the hospital.

  • carry on size suitcase and maybe a small bag for any extras (packing for DH, myself and LO)...I also brought the boppy, pillow for me and DH, yoga/birthing ball (which never left the car since my birth went faster than anticipated), oil diffuser for my lavender oil, battery operated candles (for dim, calm ambiance in delivery room), laptop, camera, video camera, etc. it did feel like we were moving in lol

  • I'm not packing until March, but if I had to guess which bag, I'd say my regular suitcase, or this new, two-tier duffle bag we got with wheels.

I'm the WORST packer, so I'm assuming I bring too much sh!t and need the biggest bag possible. Although I won't be packing that many shoes, which always seems to be my downfall.

  • With my first 2 children,I didn't pack anything.  We literally lived down thestreet from the hospital so after the baby was born I made a list of the things I needed or wanted and my husband went and gotit for me.

We moved recently and now live in a city an hour away. Then it's a half hour drive through town just to get to the hospital.  I can't be sending DH home to get things this time so packing will have to be extremely thought out.

I will be packing myself enough outfits to last for a couple of days. the same for my husband. I will packa couple outfits for LO and a pack of diapers and wipes. As long as everything goes well with the delivery I should be released from the hospital after 24 hours, I'm just not sure I will be up for the longdrive back home right away. Luckily my in laws live really close to the hospital.

I'm a light packer but will have to pack more than most since I have to travel.

  • I took a carry-on size suitcase and medium duffle bag last time and it was more than fine for our stuff. Getting everything home took more bags though! I didn't take into account that we'd leave with more than we came with. :)

ETA: We just carried my pillow and boppy up. No way could i have slept on the hospital pillows. We didn't bring a diaper bag because we didn't really have any baby stuff. We were told just to bring the coming home outfit.

  • Probably my carry-on rolling suitcase, diaper bag for the baby stuff, and then we'll carry my pillow and Brest Friend nursing pillow or stick them in a plastic bag. I'm not bringing much for DH since he most likely won't be staying over - maybe just a toothbrush and some snacks for him.

My suitcase is expandable, so if I'm able to get everything in there without expanding it, I'll be able to fit more stuff in there to take home.

  • These will be all the bags we'll be hauling to the hospital:

    1 large suitcase (mine)
    1 small suitcase (DHs)
    diaper bag
    Large tote bag
    my purse

I'm also going to have our spare diaper bag packed and ready so I don't have to worry about trying to pack DS's bag in a hurry for when we drop him off at family's place when I go into labor.

Our hospital is 1+ hr away from where we live. DH is staying with me the entire stay. DS will be staying with family. Once we leave, we will not be coming back until we are discharged from hospital. So if its just one night, or four, we have to be prepared. It is too long a drive to be coming and going. We will have 3-4 days worth of clothing each. Everything imagineable that we could need as far as bathroom kit - soap, razors, make up, toothbrush, paste, hair shampoo/conditioner/brush/ties, etc etc.... I also have snacks and drinks packed for during labor for me and for DH.
