Babies on the Brain

WTF ( long)

My poor BF has had the weirdest past week I've ever seen. He's a manager of our local CVS, and like any town, we've got our 'characters' (a.k.a. why-the--aren't-you-medicated people). BF treats all the people who come in to the store the same, even this one man who talks to the women on the hair dye boxes and magazines, whom literally visits CVS every day. And BF never treated him differently and always would say 'hi how are you' when this man came in.

Until this past Thursday, when BF is on his way back from the bank after making a store deposit. The guy is between BF and the store and when he sees BF, he asks him "what are YOU doing?" BF says "just made a deposit for the store, going back to work." The man says "well, where do you work?" BF looks at him oddly, because he was wearing his workshirt with CVS branded on it, and says "CVS, I see you in there all the time." The guy gets out a lighter and starts flicking it in BF's face(!), saying "no you don't, no you don't, you don't work there." BF knows the guy is obviously mentally ill, so he doesn't want to exacerbate him, and turns to go, and the guy starts shoving him from behind!

Now, BF is a big guy, 6'5, 250+ lbs, and doesn't look like a guy you'd want to with. But he's so timid and dislikes confrontation, so he ran back to the store and made a report to the regional manager, who is his supervisor in the store. End of story, right? Unfortunately, no.

Edited for mixed up words.

Re: WTF ( long)

  • so...what happened next?  I'm waiting!

  • Then, on Friday, while BF is helping stock shelves, he hears the guy in another aisle over talking to a coworker. "I just wanted to let you know that a guy was outside saying he worked in here and I knew he didn't. So if some guy comes in here saying he works here, call the cops." BF goes back to the pharmacy that has its own exit, and when the guy goes to leave he sees BF. He says "what are you doing in here, you need to get out of this store" and has his lighter out, but at his side, and he's flicking it again. BF tells him to put the lighter away. He does, and leaves. But he comes back, again that day, and Saturday, and each time he sees BF he says "oh here we go again, here we go again", walks the perimeter of the store, and leaves.

Naturally, BF is freaked out by this guy, and tells the regional manager each time something happend. She was appalled, and I guess after the incidents on Friday, she went to the police and filed some kind of report or complaint on BF's behalf.

On Sunday, the guy comes in while BF is in the office, but through the two-way mirror, he could see this guy talking to the regional manager. She said that this guy told her "I sure am glad you got rid of that guy who was in here, he's no good". She told him he needed to back off (evidentally he was getting aggressive towards her) and leave, and if she saw him in the store, threatening her staff again, she'd call the police. Thankfully, he left.

An officer came in today to talk to BF, and I guess the guy got sent to the ER on Sunday night, by force, because he wasn't taking his meds. BF is pressing charges, on the advice of the cop and the manager.

    ~sigh~ And it's only Tuesday...

Edited because I left something out.

And now BF texts me saying he feels bad because it's this old man who obviously has problems, and now he might go to jail. But I told him if he gets back on his proper meds, he'll be fine, and if it really weighs on his conscience, he could drop the charges. What scares me is thinking that he maybe chose BF at random to bully. What if it was a kid? Or a mother with a young baby?

That's what I was thinking, too.

    What a yucky situation.
