Re: *~* Sleep Training Check In*~*

  • 1) Day number/Start date

    7 (7:15pm-7:15am, like clockwork!)

    2) Length of time crying before LO fell asleep

    None. :-)

    3) Any wakeups

    Just to eat once...

    4) Dreamfeed/regular feeding

Regular feed at 3:30am, went right back down.

    5) What you did to stay busy and not cry

    N/A

    6) Any challenges/questions/concerns

We had a minor problem with her first nap of the day; I waited too long to put her down and she was "beyond the point of no return" I like to call it, and she cried off/on the entire nap. So, like the book says, take her out of the crib, skip the nap, and try again next time. So here we are. :-(

    7) Progress Update/Successes

    I have nothing right now...

  • Grrr

DH is messing with all the progress I made last week.

He's supposed to be in charge of the first wakeup if, if there is one.  He was gone all last week and weekend.  While he was gone I made some good progress on that first wake up.  He put himself back to sleep w/in minutes and some nights didn't wake at all.

DH has been home the past 2 nights and both nights went down and spent 20-30 minutes rocking him back to sleep and picking him back up if he woke up when getting put down.  I've falled back to sleep both times and didn't know until the morning that he had done that.

Looks like we'll be having a Sleep Training meeting today.

  • 1) Day number/Start date - 3rd night (9:30-9:30)

    2) Length of time crying before LO fell asleep - 2 seconds!

    3) Any wakeups - 1:30, 4:30, 6:30. After her 6:30 feeding, I put her back to bed but she would not settle so I finally got up at 7:00. She made it to 7:30 before I knew she was still tired so we ended up sleeping on the couch together for 2 more hours.

    4) Dreamfeed/regular feeding - regular feeds all three times.

    5) What you did to stay busy and not cry - N/A

    6) Any challenges/questions/concerns - Naps. She only sleeps 20-30 minutes at a time during naps, and once she wakes up there is no chance of her going back to sleep. I have tried leaving her in her crib but the crying is unbearable. She ends up getting so overtired and cranky as the day goes on. What do I do? More naps? Should I try putting her down every hour and half?

    7) Progress Update/Successes - I think sticking to the bedtime routine is the key to success at night. Unfortunately, I need more success during the day so I will have to come up with a naptime routine, too.

  • 1) Day number/Start date - 4

    2) Length of time crying before LO fell asleep - 0, he has never cried when we put him down for bed since we started this, I have no idea how I got so lucky with that but believe me I am grateful!

    3) Any wakeups - 2, 2am and 4am

    4) Dreamfeed/regular feeding - 10pm dreamfeed, he's only taking about 3.5oz but I'm scared to wean it yet, he'd go 6:30-6:15 and that just seems like it might be too long just yet, plus he's so darn cute when I dreamfeed :-)

    5) What you did to stay busy and not cry - just stayed calm, he cried when he woke up but was back out in under 15min both times

    6) Any challenges/questions/concerns - it was his first day at daycare since starting so I think naps were a little iffy, we also weaned his 3am feeding, so this was the first night he didn't get it and I think that might be part of the wakeups

    7) Progress Update/Successes - I am super impressed with how quickly he caught on to bedtime and our routine, I think he actually likes the story time and is happy to be put down to sleep now.  It's also awesome to wake him up and have a happy baby in the morning, I get all kinds of smiles now!

  • 1) Day number/Start date - 1.5, decided to start Sleepeasy last night and also weaned baby from pacifier yesterday during naps

    2) Length of time crying before LO fell asleep - 0 last night, she was so tired by the time bedtime rolled around. Naps were another story. Cried a ton and then only slept for 20-30 minutes each time

    3) Any wakeups - 1 at night, 10:30pm.

    4) Dreamfeed/regular feeding - Fed when she woke up. Normally she gets up at least 1 more time but she slept 7 more hours after the feed.

    5) What you did to stay busy and not cry - crying happens during the naps. I try to keep busy doing stuff around the house.

    6) Any challenges/questions/concerns - I hate that she isn't getting good sleep during the day, although I know yesterday was only day one. I am following Ferber's advice on weaning her to only 1 feed a night so I will plan to feed her 4 hours after she goes down tonight instead of 3.5 hours. BUT- if she only ends up doing one feed a night, I don't mind when I feed her. I guess I just hate to have her cry for the minutes between when she wakes up and when I feed her if it's not 4 hours since the last feeding if she's only going to feed once that night anyway. Any thoughts, if anyone has done this?

    7) Progress Update/Successes - Cannot believe DD slept a total of 11 hours last night, including 7 hours after the feed. she normally cannot do much more than 2-3 after a feed at night. A success!

  • 1. 1/25

    2. none

    3. 1:40 and 5:30ish

    4. fed both times

    5. n/a

    6. nope!

    7.  I think I'm a more patient mother with more sleep...def helps during the day...

  • 1) Day number/Start date

    Day number 2

    2) Length of time crying before LO fell asleep

She was screaming so violently that she was making her self sick/gag so after 1 hour and 6 minutes, I gave her her paci and she went to sleep immediately.

    3) Any wakeups

16 wakeups. Because I caved and gave her the binki. She can't replace it yet so I was up all night giving it back to her. I have to face the music today and just take it from her entirely.

    4) Dreamfeed/regular feeding

Because I couldn't tell when she was hungry or just crying I tried feeding her a few different times. She ate 4 times total. 1 time being only 1 oz and 3 times being 3 oz. This is including her wake up feed at 7 am.

    5) What you did to stay busy and not cry

    Played monopoly with my husband

    6) Any challenges/questions/concerns

The binki is causing major problems. I was afraid she'd never get to sleep if I didn't give it to her last night. She was screaming like she was literally in pain, arching her body, face turning bright red, all because of her binki. I have caved on that two nights in a row but tonight, I'm going to have to stay strong and try to help her through it.

    7) Progress Update/Successes

    None yet.

  • 1) Day number/Start date: Day 5, 7:30pm - 6am

    2) Length of time crying before LO fell asleep:  about 2 minutes

    3) Any wakeups:  none!  :)

    4) Dreamfeed/regular feeding:  none

    5) What you did to stay busy and not cry:  I put her down to sleep, and she was out by the time I came back from filling her humidifier!

    6) Any challenges/questions/concerns:  LO was overtired yesterday evening, and actually soothed herself to sleep in her high chair (we have her at the table with us while we're eating dinner).  She'd only napped for about 2 hours throughout the day.  I talked to daycare when I dropped her off this morning, and they're going to follow the naptime routine we follow on the weekends, which should give her 3-4 hours.  We've only just gotten her into a naptime routine as part of her sleep training - set naptimes were too hard when she was smaller.

    7) Progress Update/Successes:  last night was the first time LO has STTN since she got sick a month ago!  And, the fastest she's fallen asleep so far!  Super excited!

Hoot, I swear I read this in the book and now im looking back and can't find it. Does anyone else remember reading this?!? Now I'm worried I did it wrong?!?

I'm not entirely sure if I read this in Ferber or Sleep easy but what I've been doing is putting her down. When she wakes after the 30-45 minute mark, I try for a few more minutes to get her back down. If she doesn't go (which she usually doesn't) I get her up and keep her up until her next nap which is usually 2 hours. It seems to have been working. Again, I may be doing it wrong and I can't remember which book I read it in.

Ok, I found it!! The book strongly suggests one hour naps, but we do 45 min naps... Still, they say at the end of the one hour nap, end it, and try again in one hour. I believe the reason is bc with night sleep training you have hours and hours to work with (train), but with naps, you can't expect them to CIO for longer than the nap would typically last. I will say, one day last week, she cried for 44 min before falling asleep, then she stayed asleep for over two hours. Today at 45 minutes, I ended it. Those are the only two times (in 7 days) that I've had a hard time with naps. She's been great otherwise.
