Birth control question

I have a potentially stupid question.

 I know they recommend against standard BC because it can lower milk output.  My LO is 6 months old and AF returned at 4 months.  When my period is about to come my supply goes down.  I would like to get back on BC to regulate my periods, but I don't want to cause any harm to my supply.  SO, my question is: since my period has already returned, would it still harm my supply further to go back on BC?

    The mini pill (progestogen only) doesn't affect milk supply which is why it's recommended for BFing moms.

    Talk to your HCP about it.   If LO has picked up solids well and you are not BFing full time, it may be okay to go back on the regular pill.

    The mini pill does affect supply for some women.  I was one of the unlucky ones.  Although for most women it is safe so I would definitely ask you're doc about it.

    The mini-pill lowered my supply, so be careful. Watch your pump output and LO for cues.

    There are lots of options out there for birth control for breast feeding.  They generally don't lower supply, but may for some.  I just started the depo shot today so here's hoping my supply stays up because I'm on it for 3 months whether I want to be or not now.

    When I asked my provider she said that it's extremely rare for progestin only bc's to affect supply so I felt confident with the decision.

    Thanks ladies.  My OB said the mini pill is out of the question because my period returned.  She said it is only effective before you begin ovulating.  I will definitely talk to her about other options, I was j/w if any of you knew off the top of your head.  :)  I was hoping that since I was one of the unlucky ones who got my period back so soon that I should get a free pass and be able to go back on BC.  Wishful thinking, I know.
