I got put on bed rest on Friday after my doctors appointment and a visit to labor and delivery. I have mild pre-e.......I was totally shocked on Friday when the doc took my blood pressure, told me I was on bed rest, and to head over to labor and delivery. I have appointments twice a week now and ultrasounds once a week. I'm still pretty freaked out especially because my doc is talking about taking her early. At yesterdays appointment she discussed setting up an induction for 37-38 weeks.....as long as my pressure stays down.
I'm on day 4 and kind of bored. There's so much stuff I want to do around the house but can't.
Why are you on bed rest?
Re: Any other bed rest mama's?
Sorry you're on bed rest and are going through that! It is pretty boring, but I try to give myself some sort of schedule during that day, even if it is just a list of small things to do, to watching a certain show at a certain time. Or maybe pick up a new hobby?
I am going on my 4th week! Whooo! After my apt, next week I get to change to moderate, which I am looking forward to. I went into pre-term labor, having contractions every 5-7 minutes weeks back. I had a positive FFM also. It seems that things have stopped for the most part, or at least when I have some contractions, they are not making any progress. Baby is head down and seems fine so far!
I was put on modified last week. I'm a little bored, but so far it's been kind of nice. It's weird to go from teaching all day and having something to do every night of the week to a complete stop! I'm just hoping she stays in long enough for the boredom to get to me!
ETA: I'm on bed rest because I lost my mucus plug and started having frequent BH last Monday night. When the Dr. saw that I was already dilating, she put me on bed rest.
I have been on modified bed rest (limited activity and pelvic rest) since 16 wks. At 30 wks I was admitted to the hospital for contractions and sent home on strict bed rest (only bathroom/shower privileges and can leave the house for dr's appt only).
I have a history of PTL - DD2 was born at 33 wks 5 d - and am now carrying twins (which are prone to complications and early deliveries).
I will be on strict bed rest until I deliver around 37-38 wks. Unless things change and I'm put on hospital bed rest.
I bump, surf the internet, got books from the library and watch a lot of Netflix.
Check out the High Risk board - there is a daily Bed Rest Check-In and they have a ton of suggestions to help combat the boredness

I'm not alone!!!! Sorry everyone is on bed rest, but it's whats best for now. I'm a teacher so I had nothing planned for my students. I actually planned to take care of everything on Monday because it was a teacher work day. Oh well!
I have lurked on the high risk board. I need to get on a schedule. I'm sure that will help. DH is going to set up Netflix so I'm sure that will also help. I will finally get to my long list of books to read.
I'm a teacher, too. I had just talked to my mentor (who also teaches the same thing I do - we usually plan everything together) last Tuesday morning before I went to the doctor about when I needed to write my lesson plans. She said that it was still too early and I needed to wait a couple of weeks so that we could be more sure of where the kids would be. That afternoon I had to call and tell her I wouldn't be back! She's taking care of everything and my students are all getting what they need, but I still feel terrible!
My department chair is taking care of everything. When my doc first said bed rest I told her I couldn't do it! Clearly my priorities were wrong at that moment. Needless to say when she gave me the option of doing bed rest in the hospital or doing it at home I took the 2nd option.
Hang in there!! The first week or two are the hardest, I've been on strick bed rest for 10 weeks and it does get easier. I'm only allowed out of the house for weekly Dr appts.
There are a ton of things around my house that need taken care of but I learned the hard way a few weeks into bed rest that everything that needs done just has to wait. Right now, I'm working on organizing all my recipes into a binder and making a take out menu binder. It lets me organize something since I feel everything else in the house is a wreck!
My best advice to you is to shower and make up everyday, it does make you feel better. I give myself a schedule; get up, shower, tv, internet all at certain times of the day. It again, gives me the feeling of some control in my life!! Good luck!
I've been on bed rest since Friday due to leaking amniotic fluid. I have some other complications as well so I'll probably be here until the baby comes...I'm hoping to make it to 35 weeks.
I've been reading the Hunger Games and just finished watching the Swedish version of the Millienium Triology or just generally messing about online.
Good luck keeping your sanity while cooped up!
On Friday my doc kept making comments about making it to 34 weeks. That totally freaked me out. I had an appointment yesterday and forgot to ask what was the significance of 34 weeks....why not 37 or later. Anyone have any ideas about that?
I was on strict bedrest from 24 weeks-34 weeks. Difficult but thanked God every day my baby stayed put! At 34 weeks I went to a modified bedrest (still in bed some, pelvic rest, and very limited activity) for cervical incompetence. My doctor was hoping to at least get me to 34 weeks because the baby's chance of survival at that stage is about 99% according to him. He agreed that full term is the optimal but if I could at least get to 34 weeks that would be great. Hope that helps vcukoko82.
To those on bedrest try to enjoy the downtime now because things will be very busy soon! I read lots of books, watched a lot of tv, did online shopping for christmas 2011, and surfed the web like crazy... Hang in there and try to think about the reward in the end!
Ive been on bedrest since Dec 22nd.I have placenta previa and started having contractions and bleeding.
I hope you feel better. Listen to your doc and stay in bed. Its so hard with so much to do, but its so much better for baby
Good luck with everything!
Im on bed rest because at my regular appointment 2 weeks ago the doctor found out I was 1 cm dilated! The only good thing about it is that work agreed to let me work from home. Although I see that changing after yesterday's trip to L&D!
My BFP Chart
Today marks 9 weeks of BR. Feel free to join us on the HR board for the daily check in
I've been on it for PTL and a shortened cervix. I have another growth u/s on Friday (have weekly Dr appts), and there's a chance they'll take her then. Eeek!!! I'm hoping to make it to 38 weeks, but we'll see!
Just take things one day at a time and try not to stress over it!
I am on for the same reason you are...plus GD now too. I was on hospital bed rest for about three days then sent home for bed rest and...here I am! Still. I go the doctor two times a week and have a non-stress test on Thursday. I was just thinking about seeing how many other March moms are stuck on bed rest.
I have an appointment that should be set the the MFM doctor and then maybe I will know a little more. I know that my blood pressure is really not going down and I think it is because I am stressed out from staying home all day. I don't think I have ever taken this much time off work unless I was actually going on vacation since I was 18!
When I was first put on bed rest, my doctor described my milestones as 24 weeks, 28 (lower brain/developmental issues), 32 (even lower brain/developmental issues) and 34 weeks (possibility of no mandatory NICU time at this hospital) with 37 weeks as a target for induction. The bed rest has actually really helped with my pre-e symptoms and I'm doing much better now than I was all those weeks ago. I hope it helps you too!
Thanks! That's good to hear. I have an appointment on Friday.....I have a stress test or non-stress test? What should I expect for that? At my appointment yesterday I had lost 4 pounds since Friday and my pressure was down so she definitely is keeping me on bed rest. I know it's helping. I'm not on my feet all day like before and I have to say I was somewhat stressed at work. Now if we can make it to 37 weeks!
The non-stress tests are a non-invasive way to check in on your baby and I've been having two a week since 24 weeks. With pre-e, they'll probably get a sample of your urine up front and then check your bp periodically throughout. For the baby, you'll get hooked up to a monitor for contractions and a monitor for baby's heart rate and they'll be looking for a certain number of baby's movements with accompanying heart accelerations within a certain time period. If your baby is sleepy, they might have you drink some juice or use a baby buzzer to give them a little noise to help them wake up. The baby passes the test by being deemed "reactive" and having enough movements and heart rate changes within the time period. If baby is "nonreactive," your doctor will probably order a followup biophysical profile (BPP) which is an ultrasound to watch baby's movements to see if they're in distress.
My NST's are done in L&D and usually take about an hour from start to finish. I can watch tv, read, chat with the nurses and surf the internet so it's a pretty relaxing appointment. It's nice to get to hear LO on the heart monitor and fun to see how his moving around changes his heart rate. It's a bit of a pain to get myself there twice a week, but a low key and fairly enjoyable experience overall. Good luck!
