Drying up:(....long

So doc told me to quit bfing due to medication that I researched and found to be in the L3 category meaning it is moderately safe to use while bfing.  As soon as he told me to quit, I nursed my son once more at noon Monday and took the meds (which is to support low progesterone in a new pregnancy).  It's 3 am and I can't sleep for the pain!  I so want to just pump and dump or go ahead and bf since the FDA has approved it for use during bf.  But I've read lactation causes low progesterone and I don't want to lose this pregnancy and don't know if the supplements doc prescribed will get my levels to normal while bfing.  So many questions....wwyd?

  • How long are you on the meds?  Can you pump to keep your supply up until you're off?  Do you have a stash?

  • Good news!  I think my doc was a bit overzealous in ordering me to stop bf.  I spoke with several breastfeeding experts which directed me to studies of this drug in breastmilk which said that not much actually gets into the milk and then when taken orally (like the baby would get it) the absorption rate is low.

Now part 2 of the question is how will my already having low progesterone be affected by bf.  I read it causes you to have low levels.  I'm waiting on a call from my obgyn to tell me if he thinks the supplements will be enough to allow me to continue bf.  I'm really hoping so and I get my levels tested again Friday so that should show me if I'm still low or not.  If not, I'm going for it.  If I'm barely there I will quit to save the new pregnancy.
