I am only 7 weeks pregnant, but I have been really feeling the nausea and weakness kick in over the last week and a half. It used to be that four out of five nights during the week I would be found cooking dinner after work. Now that almost everything I smell makes my stomach flip over, cooking has been the LAST thing I want to do after being gone for nearly ten hours during the work day. I am starting to feel guilty because my husband and I have been eating out every night for dinner the last week and a half.
I am mostly concerned because this is the time when my intake of food is supposed to be cautiously monitored; making sure I am getting all the nutrients for my growing baby.
Any tips?
Re: Concern about dinner
For eating out - just be selective of where you are going and what you are eating. A big mac and large fry every night is more concerning than getting a veggie sub. I eat out probably 4-5 times a week but I watch what I eat, balance it with water and take my prenatal.
As for eating at home - can your husband cook? If you are able to handle it look for frozen meals that are maybe easy for preparation and start being aware of the foods you can handle. If your craving tacos - make them together at home.
Hey there,
Don't sweat it. Take your prenatal vitamins and eat what you can. What you're going through is very common. Your baby will be okay. I find that a lot of books and websites offer this same advice. You might worry if you're really not eating and if you're not keeping food down.
I bought groceries for a week and we couldn't get half-way through what I bought because NONE of it sounded remotely appetizing. So, we've been eating out a lot or doing day-of grocery shopping. Listen to your body. It might be telling you exactly what you need, for example, if ice cream sounds good, you might need calcium.
I find it helps to start thinking of a few dinner ideas a few hours in advance. It sort of plants the seed so that, come dinner time, something will sound tolerable.
Good luck!

This is what I did with my first child. I picked a time of day when I was feeling best and made meals to freeze for later. And crock pot meals are so easy, you could have your husband toss the ingredients in before work if you were unable to handle it. Rubbermaid makes some great divided containers that are BPA free and freeze-able that are great for make-ahead meals. All you have to do is pop them in the microwave and you have a healthy freezer meal.
