I used Spoiled Mama Tummy Butter and bio-oil with my first pregnancy and never got any stretch marks. I don't have any of the tummy butter so I am using Bio Oil at the moment.
Like people mentioned, I guess it's hereditary but my Mom and sister both have them and I don't so you might get lucky = ) IMO, using creams and oils can't hurt so I'm going to keep using them and hope I'm lucky this time around too!

I know...hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones or at least i hope i dont get it that bad. thank you!
My old ultrasound tech told me the best thing you can do for stretch marks while pregnant is to stay hydrated. Lots of water and some sort of hydrating lotion. I didn't get any until my last two weeks of pregnancy and they are very faint on my belly. My mom, however has a spider web of them on her belly and sides.
I used special lotion twice a day and drank a ton of water while I was pregnant with DS. I have a to of stretch marks. Not just on my stomach, but also on my boobs, upper things and my back. I'm pretty sure you either have good luck or bad luck.
I'm going to be the jerk that tells you stretch marks are hereditary and that no amount of vitamin E or cocoa butter will prevent it from happening.
I used all of that stuff and I still have quarter inch wide stretch marks on my stomach.
this! i will be the other jerk that seconds this. my mom didn't get stretch marks from being pregnant and i didn't with my first, so far haven't with my 2nd. i sometimes use lotion when my skin is dry but not on a regular basis so i don't think you can necessarily prevent them...although they say they fade.
My mom's stomach is ravaged by stretch marks and well, her pregnancy with me pretty much ruined any chances of a flat stomach ever again for her. As for me, I have stretch marks from my first child but they aren't that bad and they eventually faded. You have to get up close to even see them. I was able to wear a bikini soon after. I didn't use lotion or any of that stuff. I don't really buy into the whole thing where lotion or cocoa butter helps. I believe it's hereditary.
I sported my bald head with pride, my chemo curl with pride, love my grey patch, and wear all of my breast cancer scars with familiarity, love & pride. all of these things are a part of me, who I was, who I am and who I continue to be. They tell the story of my life and I will PROUDLY rock any and all stretch marks I gain from having this child. I will use apricot oil on my tummy because it did help with all of my other scars but won't worry about it.
"You are not here merely to make a living. You are here to enable the world to live more amply, with greater vision, and with a finer spirit of hope and achievement. You are here to enrich the world. You impoverish yourself if you forget this errand."

With my first, my SIL gave me Mama Mio Tummy Butter. I don't have any stretch marks and I'm not saying because of the cream but it does smell good and felt really good to put on everyday. I will do the same with this pregnancy. I also used the lucky legs when my feet got really swollen in the last month. It was cooling and felt so good.
I used bio oil and body butter. That being said, I STILL GOT STRETCH MARKS. I religiously used them because if i didn't my stomach itched like crazy and i believe they helped keep me from scratching my skin off and causing more damage. I used them both afterwards and i think they helped them heal faster. If nothing else, it makes my skin really soft.

Maybe it was just a coincidence, but I used Palmer's Cocoa Butter lotion with Vitamin E and Shea Butter on my belly all during my pregnancy with twins and I didn't get any stretch marks on my belly. But the places I didn't use it - my lower back and thighs - I did get some stretch marks. So this time I'm using it all over! Like I said, maybe it was just a coincidence. Who knows. But using the lotion does help with soothing the itch of a growing belly.

While they are hereditary, hydration and steady controlled weight gain can help lessen their occurence. Dr recommends drinking plenty of fluids and lotions/oils can help with skin elasticity. Exercise and 6 small well balnaced meals a day vs 'pigging out' on cravings helps with steady appropriate weight gain
