How to keep them from climbing onto the table??

Sam keeps climbing onto the dining room table and I'm terrified that he's going to fall. I don't know how to keep him from doing it short of taking all the chairs away (which would be a PITA since there are 8 of them.) Anyone else here whose LOs climb? Any advice?

  • Ha, boys are so much fun.  Other than doing something like roping the chairs pushed in, I found nothing that kept my older son off the table other than baby gating off the room.  You can also try putting away chairs you don't use daily, and then just pulling away the ones you use every day, if that reduces the number any.  My older son was totally into everything, he's way calm now at 10, thankfully.

  • I just took all the dining furniture out and made it into the toy room.  Hudson just now climbed on Emerson's table and fell off of that.  I hate to say it but, perhaps Hudson will learn it doesn't feel good to fall off the table and he'll just.stop.climbing.on.it.

  • Mine only climb the table when chairs are already pulled out. They do climb the changing table. I just put a huge yoga ball and another big ball on top of it and that stopped them from climbing on it. The balls are easy to move when I need to use it. I also have a small castle climber in the house for them to use if they really feel the need to climb. Maybe you could find something they can climb and pull the attention away from the table?
