1st Trimester

VERY faint positive?

My husband and I have been trying for 3 cycles.  I ovulated on the 17th.  About a week after ovulation, I had a TON of symptoms.  I realize it was waaaay too soon to have them, but I was convinced I was pregnant... Extremely sore breasts, hightened sense of smell, weird taste in my mouth, etc.

My period was due yesterday.  I tested on Saturday, and it was negative.  Yesterday on my lunch break, I tested again.  But in my excitement, I used the flippin ovulation test instead of a pregnancy test, lol!  I gulped a ton of water and tried to go again, and the result was a few dribbles.  Negative again.

Got up at 2 am this morning and tested, and I saw a very faint line.  Called DH in to look, and he saw it too.

My concern is that I would expect that the line would be a lot darker if my period is late?  Have any of you experienced a very faint line AFTER your period was due?  Also, I no longer have any symptoms, other than slightly sore breasts (which really wouldn't even be noticeable if I wasn't looking for symptoms).

Thanks, and sorry for the novel!

Re: VERY faint positive?

  • If there is a faint line, it doesn't matter, a line is a line, so congrats!

However, you are supposed to test with FMU for the best results... not drink a bunch of water mid-day and then try... so that could be the reason for the negative.

If I were you I would do this... be excited about a line is a line is a line!!!  AND I would test again, like a normal person, as if it isn't a huge deal... ha, easier said than done, I know... but test again tomorrow morning FMU... I am sure you will see another line!!!  Or go digital and you will see the 'PREGNANT' words pop up which are amazing to see!

  • I have had a faint line since last Wednesday and went to the doctor yesterday where she confirmed the pregnancy.  She assured me a line is a line.  So congratulations!

  • Congratulations! Sounds like a + to me! :) When I tested, I had all VERY faint lines. In fact, they were so faint DH was convinced those lines were just supposed to be there and didn't mean anything. As they say, a line is a line! Also, you aren't "too early" for symptoms--at least from my personal experience. Sore boobs kicked in for me over a week before my BFP. Actually, I had even gotten a - two days before my + with symptoms. So, congrats! :)

  • My period was due on the 29th and I tested on 27th w/my FMU and got a faint line too.  I proceeded to take 3 more tests over the next few days with the results getting darker each time.  It made me feel better to see that my hcg levels were rising.  I would recommend taking another just for your peace of mind, but like previous posters said, a line is a line!  Congrats!

  • A line is a line! Congrats!!

Even if you know when you ovulated, depending on when the egg implanted, you may not have been "pregnant" on that day. It could have been a couple days after ovulation that the egg implanted which would affect when the HCG started building in your body. It's the HCG that brings up the line on tests. I'm sure it will get darker over the next few days. Get some dollar store tests and watch them get darker :)

(I hope I explained that so it makes sense!!)

  • Thanks for all the reassurances everyone!  Google has been freaking me out.  Some sources state that a faint positive after missed period could indicate unviable pregnancy due to low HCG levels, others indicate it could just be an evaporation line, etc.  I'll retest tomorrow morning!
  • A line is a line! I would go to the doctor to confirm everything, but it sounds like you have a little bump on the way!!!

  • I had a similair story happen to me as well. My first test I took 3 days after my expected period and it was a very faint positive. I was so happy, but wasnt sure. So, the next morning I took another test of the same type AND a digital response test and the regular test had a line that was a little stronger and the digital read "pregnant"! I learned that if there is a line, there is a line-faint or not! Enjoy it and congrats!!! Try a digital test if you want to, it helped me feel more confident in the result.

  • I got a very faint line with the Dollar Tree test I took so I broke out the big guns....the more expensive test (ClearBlue) and it said pregnant! I don't like the line ones because they are so questionable :(
  • I had a very faint line too.  A line is a line.  Congrats!

  • Mine was very faint even a few days after my expected period, and then I got a pink test and it was bright pink.  The blue tests I tried (2 different brands) were poo!

    Congratulations!
