2nd Trimester

Guitar Next to Belly

Is it ok to play your guitar loudly with it touching or very close to your belly? I just wondered. I played my guitar for a while today and my whole belly is kinda sore now. That might just be from playing, but I would hate to think I freaked out the baby.

Re: Guitar Next to Belly

  • Play it! I bet it's very soothing. I put the speaker of soft acoustic music to my belly, hoping the baby will like it:)
  • Loading the player...
  • Play on! It won't hurt the baby at all. Even better, pick a song that you love and play it every day. You baby will remember it and it will grab his/her attention and sooth them in the future. Trust me, it works and it's a great tool to have when baby is crying and nothing will help.

  • I play the guitar to my belly a few times a week and have a list of songs that I think the baby will grow to enjoy. It is nice quiet time between me and my son.  My husband also plays to him by putting me between his body and the guitar so that baby can hear him play as well. I think it is fantastic bonding.

  • Keep on playing! Your baby is well-protected and an unamplified guitar is nowhere near loud enough to do harm. The decibel level and duration to do harm would more than you would be able to stand yourself. Music can soothe baby and be relaxing for you. DS seemed to enjoy when I would play while PG and he loves music now. We play for baby 2 now. Well, DS mostly bangs on the guitar and yells, but that is his version of music.
