separation anxiety

i am just curious if anybody else's kid has night time separation anxiety? my 14 month old was sleeping in his crib great and all of a sudden he screams whenever u put him down in the crib. we tried to let him cry it out but that didnt work. he would fall asleep but just kept waking up. so my pediatrician told me to sleep in his room on the floor for two nights dont pick him up just let him know you are there then lay back down. has anybody else tried this? i just cant imagine this working? we did try and bring him in bed with us but he just wanted to be held the whole night. that is not working for me. just need some help on this. thanks

Re: separation anxiety

  • We went through something similar a few months ago. Our doctor told us to put her down, leave the room, and go in every 5 minutes that she keeps crying "to check on her, and let her know you haven't left town". However, it didn't work for us. Every time we left the room it was like starting all over again. We decided it was a bad idea in our case. Maybe that's why your pedi recommends staying? I know my daughter sees me and is like, Why aren't you picking me up?!?

We eventually said, we have this great video monitor. We can see she's OK. We made sure she was all set in the diaper department. We watched her and pined for her remotely, until she finally just calmed down. The second night it took half as long. The third night, no big deal.

She's been doing great, but like you say, it sounds like maybe this can change... post if you find something else that works for you! I'll follow this thread too for any good ideas just in case...
