Odd stimming change, thoughts?

First follicle check today, nurse says that everything in the blood work is fine but that they wold like to see a slightly stronger response. Instead of upping my dose (225/225) the doctor wants me to change my inject location to my arm.

I admit to being baffled about why injecting into my arm instead of my belly would be better. Anyone have a clue why? The nurse just said it might give a better response and seemed confused as to why I was asking for clarification at all. :(

Re: Odd stimming change, thoughts?

  • Hmmm. I'm baffled too! So, will it be an IM injection now? Maybe they are thinking it is an absorption issue?

  • No, still subq- just in the arm. The nurse even asked if I had fatty tissue to inject into. Which, yeah nurse- my chart says my weight and no one gets to my weight without some fat on their arms. :(

  • I have read that there is less body fat found on the back of the arm so the absorption is quicker because there is less for it to travel through. The nurse at our injections class stated the same things as well. Good luck and I hope the change in location gives them the response they are looking for.

  • General note: arms are harder to do by yourself and hurt more than abdomen :( Nowhere near as bad as a PIO shot, but still unpleasant :(

  • I have a lot of belly fat, so I asked about doing the shots in another location.  My RE suggested the thigh.  I'm sure that's the reason.

  • (sig warning)

I looked in to this because I carry all my weight in my stomach. There were some studies that showed overweight or obese woman respond better when given the shots in their arm or thigh as opposed to their belly. Also, I am a diabetic and if I don't seem to be responding to insulin (showing a trend over some days), I need to give my shots in the arm instead of my belly. My last IVF cycle I used my arm - I don't know if that could have made the difference but I asked my RE and he said it wouldn't make a difference but if I wanted to I could.

    Good luck!

  • Awesome, thanks for the input! Yeah my belly has a lot of fat compared to my arm so that makes perfect sense to me. Either the nurse didn't know why or was trying to be sensitive to telling me that my fat might be slowing things down (which might bother some but not me).

It just felt like such a strange change without any extra info. :)
