I had one NB outfit for my son. He wore it home from the hospital. It didn't fit when he was a week old. We have that outfit and a ND sleeper my husband bought for this baby. You won't need NB clothes.

Nothing. Her coming home outfit is NB and we have a couple of (neutral) sleepers and onesies left from DS in NB.
DS was 9.7 at birth and only wore NB for about 2 weeks so I'm skipping it this time. If DD comes earlier and is smaller, my mom will go get us NB clothes.
I lucked out when my friend dumped a ton of NB outfits on me about a month ago. Before that I was really unsure because I've never been given a guess on how big my son was growing
My daughter was born at 7lbs 4oz and she was in NB for about 3-4 weeks. Newborns are also really good about spitting up and blowing out diapers so I went through a lot of laundry in the beginning. I would say go for a couple multi packs of Carter's NB onesies and get some pants. I think you can get them in 5 packs. Get a couple sleepers too. This will carry you through for a few days after coming home from the hospital. If your baby is 9+lbs then you didn't waste that much money if you go straight into 0-3's. If you're baby is on the petite side you'll be able to go get more NB clothes if you need to.
I have a coming home outfit in NB and some gown things that look small, but say 1 size. My last LO was over 9lbs and this LO is a biggun too, most of what I have is 3-6 mos....
I did get a bunch of hand-me-down Gerber sleepers and gowns for 0-3 and they are the same size as the 2 Carter's NB sleepers, so I am counting those as NB.
99% of what I have is 0-3. If she is teeny, then Ill pick up a few more, but so many people have warned me that their kids never wore NB. This includes my sister, who's girls were 7lb5oz and 7lb4oz. Both were just too long for anything NB.
I would wait until you know the estimated weight of your baby. My friend bought a lot of newborn sizes, and her baby turned out 9lb. 4oz. at birth... Of course she didn't fit into any of them. She gave them to me because my baby will most likely be a small baby. Estimation is not accurate, but at least you'll know the baby will be on a big side or a small side...

I find sleepers were great as my kids wer eborn in end of winter early spring (feb/march and april)
this time Im having an August baby so partly summer, but can be cold too.
I agree about pp about NB sizes. I have 1st was 9 2 and he never really worse NB sizes. I start buying more 0-3 months stuff and a few NB sizes. like say 2-3 nb sleepers and same for undershiurts the snap ones. Im expecting # 4 and I go for practicallity before cutness now. like watch for shirts that have snaps as opposed to no snaps. easier to slip on
None. I had none for DS either. He was 10 lbs 22" when he was born at 39 weeks. I have one entire 20 gal. bin of 0-3/3M and two bins of 3-6/6M. I never got the Gerber stuff because he was so long. He never lasted in clothing because he just outgrew the length too quickly. Unfortunately, at the time, I didn't see how quickly he was growing, so we have a ton of hardly worn clothing.
Sorry no paragraphs, bumping from my phone.

My first wore newborn for a month and she was pretty big at 8 lbs 4 oz. Mainly all you want/need when they are that little are several footed sleepers and a few short sleeved onesies to wear underneath. To sleep you will want one or two swaddle sacks for the first few weeks, then sleep sacks. The halo sleep sacks are better than any other because they are longer and leave room to grow. Outfits on newborns look cute on the hanger, but don't really work too well on for the most part, do don't invest in too many of those.
DS was 7lbs 13oz when he was born and he was in newborn clothes for a while (maybe 2 months?). Plus they go through A LOT of outfits a day with spitting up and pee/poop accidents, so I felt like I didn't have enough! For this baby I have...
Sleepers (long sleeve onesies with feet): 8 jammies
Long sleeve bodysuit: 8 bodysuits & 8 pairs of pants/sweats
Honestly, most babies barely get a chance to wear nb sizes, so I always go w/0-3 to start off with. I have 1nb outfit that was gifted to me that she'll wear for those 1st pics in the hospital. Most of my purchases are sized 3 months and up. But I do have the following:
3 packs of 0-3 side snap onsies, 1 pack is long sleeved, 2 packs are short sleeved
10 nightgowns, 0-3 months/3 months (most purchased by my mom)
6 footed sleepers/jammies, 0-3/3 months
4 2peice sets, 0-3/3 months
A few too many cute outfits, 0-3/3 months, lol!
I also plan on taking a few side snap onsies from the hospital if they fit LO nicely.
Sleepers (long sleeve onesies with feet) I am actually buying MORE of these since I make tiny babies. I had 5 or 6 for dd and she ended up wearing them for almost 8 weeks. In fact, even though she was born only four days before dd, she wore preemie clothes for 2 weeks before the nb fit. I want at least 5 more for the next dd.
Long sleeve bodysuit : I have a few, never really used them much for dd as a may baby and this one is april so i think will be about the same
Short sleeve bodysuit: 10
Nightgowns: I have 5 or 6 and it was enough for dd
Sidesnap t-shirts (not a oneise): never used these. I had one that I never used
I have barely anything in NB size, most is 0-3 months.
I also have a few little rompers and outfits, but like I said, dd was very small so she wore them a lot.
The only things I have in NB size are 4 footed PJ's. Got 1 as a gift, bought the other 3. If she is smaller than the 0-3 outfits I have I will just roll up the sleeves. Or stick her in a sleepsack in her diaper...
