Hi ladies. We're expecting our first in July, and I'll start back to work in October. We have been looking at day care centers (getting on waiting lists) but also now interested in the full-time nanny option in our home (but not live-in). Question is when to start looking/contacting nannies? I'm not sure if it is too early now or not.
(Also, we're in Silver Spring if anyone knows a good nanny that might be available for an infant)
Re: When to look for full-time nanny?
Sittercity.com, definitely. I've tried the nannying boards on DC Urban Moms but haven't ever found anyone worthwhile (although SIL did).
ETA: Perhaps I should have read your question more closely! I'd say 4-6 weeks out, max.
We found our amazing nanny through White House Nannies. We also found some folks through Craigslist and SitterCity, but the candidates sent to us from WHN were absolutely fantastic! Could not have been happier
We didn't start our search until after the girls were born. We needed just a few weeks to interview candidates and get together all the paperwork (which WHN helped with).
Good luck!
