Hey ladies. I was just wondering what the typical meds are if you can't use clomid? I have my next appointment with my RE in Feb and want educate myself ahead of time.
At my last appointment they said it's highly unlikely I'll ever be put on clomid again due to the ginormous cysts and OHSS. However, this was my first month off of clomid after 4 cycles, and I don't believe I O'd. I was testing each day but never got a positive (but I know they are never 100% accurate, so I'm always a little iffy).
So if you don't use clomid, what do you ladies use?
TIA!
Re: If you can't use clomid?
Femara is another oral medication that many here have tried. But some RE's don't use it since its not technically a fertility med and is being used off label.
After that FSH injectable meds like Follistim may be prescribed. They're teeny tiny needles and easy to give to yourself. They do go up in cost considerably though.
I think the cysts she mentioned would be the main issue with Clomid.
And if properly monitored and given the low and slow method with injects, then they're completely fine even for women who have previously developed OHSS.
I did two cycles on 50 and two cycles on 100 (none were monitored despite my requests). They assumed I wasn't responding and it turns out I was responding too well.
The RE didn't go too much into what would be next since our main objective was to have these cysts go away first. I know they've gone down since I can finally fit into my clothes again haha Not sure if they're gone completely, just smaller.
I will do some research on Femera and the injectables so I'm prepared for the next appt. Thank you!
This! Because of the sheer size of my cysts I am sure they have been developing for some time from the Clomid.
Yikes! I hope you'll be monitored from now on, especially since they know complications have come up in part due to poor monitoring in the past. GL!
Yes! My RE was appalled that I had never had an U/S before seeing him. Especially after I was complaining of pains in my abdomen in SEPTEMBER! I specifically brought up my concern of cysts but the doctor gave me the brush off and said it was cramps in between periods....mmhm.
Anyway, I'm hopeful for the future thats for sure! I very much like my RE and the whole clinic.
Isn't the peace of mind a good RE brings wonderful? It never ceases to amaze me how irresponsible some doctors can be.
Yes it is! I absolutely love having someone that I actually trust. I've been pretty screwed over by the military docs so I was so relieved to get a referral. I dont even care that its 2 hours away.
The last time I was there my regular doc was unavailable, and I liked his associate just as much. I felt like my previous doctors were just throwing darts whereas here I'm getting actual answers and solutions.
As of now, all I have is OHSS with cysts (last measured at 9x7cm)
At my appt earlier this month they said they are very doubtful that it is either Endo or PCOS and are confident both issues are a result of clomid. Both doctors agreed on that. But once the cysts have gone away, then we will see if there is anything else going on.
