could LO be allergic to dairy?

DD is two weeks old today and has been gassy for the past couple of days. I've done some googling and think that she may be allergic to the dairy that I consume. She kicks her legs out and then draws them into her belly while screaming in agony. I've bicycled her legs and tried gently massaging her belly, and this brings out some of the gas, but not all of it. I'm a big milk drinker and always have a healthy glass full of 2% milk with flavored instant oatmeal for breakfast. So my question is, would something like soy milk or Lactaid be an acceptable alternative?

Re: could LO be allergic to dairy?

  • Lo could be allergic to dairy but I would try cutting other things out first that tend to be more common gas triggers in babies like fresh veggies or I spicy foods or high fiber foods. The reason I would do this first is because if it is a dairy allergy you need to cut ALL dairy out for it to help your lo not just milk. If your lo is lactose intolerant even cutting those things out won't help since as humans we produce lactose in our milk.  I know with my son I couldn't eat broccoli or fiber once cereal or he was in pain for two full days.
