Two Under 2

If you got newborn photos taken w/#2

What did you end up with for sibling photos? I'm looking online for ideas, but mostly seeing sibling photos with older sibs, not 2U2.  My DS will be 16ish months by the time #2 comes and I want to get some good shots of them together, but I'm not sure how that will work.

TIA!

  • We mostly did just the baby pics. We got a couple of both of them but it wasn't easy. DD had no interest in participating lol. Here are some examples...

  • Unfortunately, we didn't get any shots of just the 2 of them, even though I had hoped to... DS1 was only 13.5 months & it just wasn't worth the struggle to get him to pose. Instead, we got a few nice family shots.

Aw great photo! Yea I'd settle for family shots but I'd love one of the 2 of them together, but I'm not sure how it will go!

  • Thanks!! I've taken a few of them together in the past few weeks (laying on a blanket together or DS1 looking over the edge of DS2's bassinet), but I wish we had some from the newborn photo shoot! Maybe ask your photographer in advance if s/he has any ideas? Our session was right around the time DS1 was due for a nap, so it was tough to get him to cooperate!

  • We only got one or two with the 2 of them. My kids are only 13.5 months apart so it was near impossible!! We ended up getting lucky that she would even kiss him, which was the best "pose" we could get. Honestly wasn't worth it for me and I like the more recent pictures better that I've taken myself!
  • Between a year & 18 months is one of the toughest ages for photos but there are definitely options!

I lay the baby down on their back on a fabric like this, then place the older sibling on their back next to the baby. You can do a few variations of this with their arm around their new baby, flip the older sibling so their heads are next to each other but feet are facing opposite directions, kissing the new baby, etc. Your photographer should stand on a stepstool and shoot from straight above.

Kissing baby on the cheek, or helping the baby with something (feeding them a bottle, wrapping the baby in a blanket, rocking them in their cradle, etc). Laying on the parent's bed together (you can even move them there asleep sometimes so it looks like they are napping together) and you can do several variations of that too - detail shots their feet together, wrap their arms around each other, etc.

Hope this gives you a few ideas! :) Good luck and congratulations on your pregnancy!

  • We didn't get any of them together during the newborn shoot. We did family photos as part of our maternity shoot. I plan on getting some of the girls together at the next 2 photo sessions we do.

Our newborn shoot took close to 4 hours since DD2 kept waking up and crying. DD1 wasnted no part of that.

  • We didn't get sibling shots. We tried but DD wasn't having it. We did get some nice family shots.

Our photographer said laying on a blanket looking at the camera is the "easiest" way to get very young siblings in a shot. But for us, DD wanted nothing to do with it.
