update to my consult & now thyroid problem

DH & I met w/ our RE over a week ago for a consult on our 2 frosties!  We found they are in the same straw and one is a grade 4 and the other is a grade 3.  We also have full coverage for a FET which is awesome since we were OOP for everything in the past.  Only thing is dh is leaving that practice so our benefits are up at the end of March.  So I started BCP last week and then RE's office called to say my thyroid is off.  I had hypo before and now I have hyper.  And my RE doesn't feel comfortable treating it so I need to see an E.ndocrinologist  Sounded okay to me until when they called me back to say I couldn't get in until March 29.  Called another and they are booked for a month.  My RE is out today but they are going to call me tomorrow to see if there is someone else she can refer me to that I can get in quicker.  I am starting to doubt it will happen before the end of March now:(

    Can you see you PCP for it? If you were hypo and are now hyper, I would think it is a med adjustment that can be done through your PCP. Granted it is better to see an Endo for thyroid things, but since you are in a time crunch (and meds can take a few weeks to work) I would just want it done.

    Good question!  My OB checked it twice last year and actually told me to stop taking my s.ynthroid  b/c I was overstimulated.   I am going to check and see if maybe that would be ok.  I'm just wondering why she doesn't feel comfortable treating it.

    If there is no way to get in before the end of march, can your DH pay for COBRA to keep the coverage he has (I'm assuming you know the new practice won't provide the same coverage?).  I'd much rather pay a few hundred in COBRA for a few months than pay several thousand to do a FET oop.  We actually paid for Cobra for 18 months so we could have IVF covered at 80%.  In the end we paid more than the cost of 1 IVF....but needed 3 so it was worth it.

    I would just see a PCP for that.  My DH sees the doctor at his work (just a family practice guy) for his thyroid stuff.  No biggie.  And a family doc could probably get you in tomorrow : )

    Hypo (which I have) really isn't a huge concern when TTC. I'm surprised they even cared. Like a pp said, it should just be a matter of adjusting down or going off the meds. My RE won't allow me to be medicated for hypo during pregnancy. That's how little they worried about it. :)

    Thanks! I am going to check into Cobra.  He had mentioned Cobra but I am not familiar with it.

    Thanks! I never thought about it.  I was thinking I needed to go see a specialist b/c she recommended one.  My RE treated me for it when I had the hypo and I have been sitting here thinking it must be bad that she won't treat the hyper! So I am going call first thing tomorrow to see if I can get into my PCP:)

    When I was pg with DD we couldn't get my meds right, so my OB referred me to Endo, too.  But she was able to tell me over the phone what to do first, then I got in to see her later.  Is it possible to do a phone consult first?  Or you could just have your PCP handle it.

    How much synthroid are you on?  It might just be a matter of dosing you down on that.  Good luck!
