Acid reflux in toddler

My DD was on prevacid for reflux. As per doctor's advise, we took her off the medicine gradually by reducing one quarter of a dose every ten days. She was doing fine after we took her off the last quarter. Her constipation also resolved as soon as she was off the medication. Recently, when she burps, I can notice than some stomach contents come up. Not enough for her to vomit or spit. Her constipation is back. There is not change in her sleep pattern or behaviors.  Anyone who has their LOs taken off medication, what to expect? how do you know that your LO has outgrown reflux? any advice would be helpful.

Re: Acid reflux in toddler

  • My pedi recommended we do a trial with our DS to take him off prevacid, however, she told us to restart it if we noticed reflux again.  I would call your pedi.  She may need to be on Prevacid again.

  • Sorry.  I should add that we were not able to stop the Prevacid with our son.  He started having reflux again when we cut back the dose.  He is now 22 months and still on it.

  • We weaned DD off about 3 weeks and hadn't had any issues. Then we went out to dinner on Saturday and she had a cajun quesedilla (adult one-they didn't have a kid's version) and she threw it up about 10 minutes after eating.  She had it before, but only on the medication.  She hasn't thrown up since, so I'm guessing it was the the AR and she just can't do spicy stuff at this point in her life. I'm hoping it doesn't come back full swing.
