I work in law enforcement and I won't be able to depend on regular pump breaks all the time. I'm pretty much already planning to have to give LO formula for day care because I won't be able to pump enough.
How will this effect my supply though? Will I still be able to nurse at night and on my days off? Even if it's just comfort nursing I'd still love to be able to do it.
Also, I go back to work when LO is about 10 weeks old. When should I start preparing my LO and my boobs for the transition back to work?
Re: I can't pump at work
If you are serious about BFing, there are ways to pump at work. Your work has to provide you a place to pump (if 40+ employees). If you drive a patrol car you could get a hands free bra and with a nursing cover and pump in the car. You can pump on your way to work, on your way home and during lunch as well.
Your supply should be able to regulate to a couple nursing sessions though if you decide not to pump at work. On your days off you might not have enough milk for all nursing sessions, you will really just have to wait and see. When you decide to introduce a bottle you can offer the formula during a session that your LO would normally have while you are gone. After a week or so, intro another bottle of formula to replace a nursing session. Repeat if necessary. This should give your boobs time to regulate and your LO used to it. GL!
