DH's grandmother passed away very early this morning. She was in her late 80s and her health had not been good for several years now. This is the first person DH has lost that is close to him, so he's really having a rough time.
We are going to drive 4 hours to San Antonio to where she will be buried. Not sure when that will be just yet. We will most likely stay the night at DH's dad's house, as I think doing this all in one day would be too much for the baby. Anyone have a list of items to bring- besides the obvious (diapers, wipes, clothes, etc.)? I'm EBF, so I won't need bottles or anything.
Also, if you have a RnP, have you used it for overnight travel? LO naps in it during the day and he's slept overnight a couple of times when his reflux was giving him trouble, but usualy he's in the PnP. Should I bring both?
If you have an Ameda pump, have you tried it on batteries? Does it work ok?
Re: traveling with LO sooner than expected- sad news
So sorry for your loss
I would just take the RnP since he has done ok in it before. I would be sure to pack a few extra outfits and the basics. When DD1 was 3 months old, I drove across state by myself (7 hours) and we did it in 3 hour stints--stop, eat, change, repeat. I am sure little A will do great. Sorry your first trip with him is on sad terms though
I am sorry for your loss ((hugs))
I'd bring just the rock'n'play, since he's slept in it before and it is handier than the pack'n'play. Snacks and water for yourself are important, too. Any vitamin/gas drops he might need and sound machine, if you use one for him to go to sleep.
I'm sorry to hear about your loss. Losing a grandparent can be very difficult!
I have used my RnP when we stay at the my IL's. I like it much better than the PnP. I put his two blankets in the RnP and then close it up, that way they are right there when we open it to use it.
I also have brought my Medela pump, with batteries and bottles to pump in the car. I would suggest you bring bottles and the pump, that way you have the option of pumping and having someone else give LO their feeding so you can attend to other things if needed. Plus the pump doesn't take up a lot of space, so if you don't end up using it, no big deal.
Be sure to bring gas drops or any other 'medicine' you give LO. If your LO uses a Paci put one in your coat pocket or purse so you don't have to dig for it in the car. And if you have never traveled with LO before then I'll tell you to bring double the outfits that you think you'll need. Our first trip to my IL's we brought five outfits for one night and used three before evening arrived. It was a fluke thing that he pooped and spit up so much, but we weren't prepared! Luckily we could do laundry.
Good luck and Drive safe! Again, I'm sorry for your loss!
May Siggy Challenge: TV mom
Thanks.
I feel so bad that she never got to see Anderson in person. We were planning on making a trip this summer when he's a little older. His grandmother was in the nursing home and we were a little nervous about taking him there with all the germs an sicknesses going around and it's quite a long drive down to where his mom lives. I just wish she could have held him.
I'm so sorry
We went away for 2 nights a couple of weeks ago and I brought (and used):
RnP
PnP (just for overnight, she doesn't sleep in her RnP at night, so if A will, I dont' think you need the PnP especially just for one night)
a package of diapers and wipes (I knew we'd only use about 10 diapers, but we weren't going to be able to easily get more, so I just brought one of the packages from our big box)
a couple blankets
burp cloths
2 outfits per day
sleep sheep
sleepsacks
Beco
and some other random things that I don't even remember because I didn't need them
oh, and i brought my pump (Medela), but I just plugged it in to use it

So sorry for your loss, it is always hard to lose the first person close to you. I'll be thinking of you guys,
This site may help with packing: https://gypsymomma.com/travel-advice/packing-list/
So sorry to hear about your husbands grandmother. Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
I might plan to bring any special bath supplies that you may use. I know if I wasn't prepared for such a thing LO would surely need a bath. You can always wash him in the sink, but if you use a special soap or anything it might be worth bringing a travel size.
I would think the RnP would be fine for such a short stay. Maybe a carrier if you use one would be helpful. Since LO has reflux I would take extra burp cloths, bibs, and of course any meds he may need.
I hope your traveling goes as smoothly as possible.
