Breastfeeding

Bottle Recommendations?

I am a FTM hoping to breastfeed.  I will be going back to work when LO is 12 weeks old.

I'm planning on getting an Ameda Purely Yours pump (I'm not sure if that makes a difference).  I get that every baby is different and bottles that work great for some don't work for others, but I'd like to get some recommendations of what to try.  Ideally, I'd like to get something that I can pump, store, and feed all from the same bottle. Any ideas? What nipples are recommended for breastfed babies?

TIA!

Re: Bottle Recommendations?

  • My LO does fine with the standard nipples that came with my Medela bottles, they aren't anything special. We haven't had any nipple confusion with them (but we introduced the occasional bottle at 5 weeks).

As far as specialty nipples I've heard that both the NUK brand and Playtex Drop-Ins are good for BF babies.

  • The Medala bottles were to fast for our DS.  We used the PISA pump and medela bottles, but we tried Dr. Browns and Playtex Ventaire.  I could pump into either of those, but I personally like pumping into the smaller bottles and they fit better in my bag.  We also bought the cheap $1 from Walmart to pump into when we needed more.
  • iI have the ameda. After going through tommee tippee, standard dr browns, similac, and breastflow we settled on ......Dr browns wide neck

  • Dr Brown were the only bottles my son wouldn't collapse the nipple. BF babies suck harder then bottlefed. He would collapse the medela, tommee tippee and nuk nipples.

  • We used Avent bottles, no problem. I can usually get them on sale and with a  coupon at Target so we tried them first. And I'm not going to mess with a good thing! :)
  • We use Tommee Tippee with no problem.

  • We use slow flow for Playtex Drop-Ins and Stage 1 for Avent.

  • We use Tommee tippee and they are great. I found that if the tops are screwed on too tight the nipple collapses so I make sure to tighten just enough and no more. I pump into medela bottles and store in lansinoh bags. The bags are great and take up little room when frozen flat.
  • Thank you all so much for your responses.  This probably sounds like a dumb question, but I'm feeling a little clueless about the whole bottle/nipple thing.

It looks like the ameda bottles that come with the pump don't include nipples with them.  So, is it safe to assume that most other brand nipples will fit onto those? or are they for storing only?

When you buy various brand bottles that come with nipples, is it safe to assume that those bottles will also fit onto my pump.  I wasn't sure if all these things were universal. :)

    Thanks again!
