Success after IF

Need advice..re Sick 2 year old.

She has only been sick a few times before and only with mild colds.  This is all new to me. She vomited twice Wednesday night. Woke her out of sound sleep. Thursday morning she had a fever, but seemed fine by evening. Friday night she had another vomiting episode in the middle of the night along with a fever and diarheea once. Saturday she felt. Ad all day. Today she has no appetite and only managed to get her to eat a few fries and a bite of a cookie, yeah not healthy but I just wanted her to eat something!

Yesterday she napped for 4 hours which is unheard of and today she is super clingy and Whiney. She took a nap this morning which never happens. I Ended up driving both kids around in the car this afternoon for nearly 3 hours because it was the only way I could get some quiet time and relax. I know every back road in town now. She's now asleep again in her crib, but doesn't have a fever at the moment.

I think I felt 2 2nd year molars poking through. Could this all be from teething? She has no runny nose or cough. Been giving Advil for the fever, which helps, but wondering if it's time to call the doctor? It's been 4 days. Advice?

siggy should be here!

  • No it can not be from teething.  teething might cause some lack of appetite, lack of sleep,  However, contrary to current belief it can't really cause a fever over 100.  Most doctors don't even think there is a fever until it is over 100 in a child over six months.  So I would say she probably has some type of virus and to call the Dr. in the AM if she isnt better.

  • Aw, poor thing! Sounds very similar to the bug Eliza had a few weeks ago. Vomiting for a day, then diaherrea, then more vomiting 2days later, more diaherrea, ongoing fever,molars...it all ended up in an ear infection and then a nasty upper respiratory bug. It just had to run its course and it was a solid 3w before she was totally back to normal. Her appetite was poor, she was whining and tantruming and generally not herself at all. I took her to the pedi twice during that time and she did get antib's for the ears - she was complaining and complaining of her ears (I think it was partially her molars), the fever just lingered.

    Good luck!

  • Sounds like a bug to me, and I doubt it has anything to do with teething.

My daughter (and I think most that age) really have a hard time betting back an appetite after being sick, and my pedi says NOT to worry about food intake, period, after a tummy bug. Just offer bland foods, easy to digest, like simple carbs, and if she eats, great, if not, no worries. Just keep up with liquids, preferably not milk. If she won't take water, you can try flat Coke, Sprite, Gatorade, just whatever she'll drink.

My pedi also wouldn't stress a fever at this point, just try and help her feel better. Give her pain relievers if they help, cuddle her a bunch, gets lots of rest and wait it out.
