NTR: Junior League?

Does anyone belong to the Junior League? I've always thought of it as a snooty/ bored/rich woman charitable organization but I'm sure it is different in every chapter. I'm not snooty or rich but I am bored and my local chapter has a couple literacy programs that I'm interested in working with. Anyone have any experience with the JL that they'd like to share? It costs money, right? And there's fundraising obligations? My local chapter doesn't have a lot of information on their website, only that they only accept new members during the summer. Any information or experiences you have would be great.

    I did it-

    Was rather ho hum about it- but I had to drive to Philly all the time and I think that played a big factor in me not continuing etc.

    You can look in to other charitable volunteer orgs. I found one closer to me and I am very involved. ~ I got involved in our local Rotary club- and it was awesome- it was less than a mile from my house- and I was able to participate a lot more than I really could with the JL

    (PS I did JL before I had kids for several years. It really depends on the chapter how the 'feel' is... however mine was pretty snooty sadly)

    I am in the PDX JL, although I rarely go anymore with 2 kiddos. I don't think it is snooty or rich.  Yes, the women are put together, but generally speaking everyone is nice and volunteer minded.  You should definitely head to a recruitment event.  We do a lot of great things for the community.

    I was in NCL (National Charity League) and JL.... my mother made me do NCL which was completely snooty and all of that but if you're genuinely interested in volunteering I would suggest joining, or finding a way of doing what you want on your own. There are so many organizations out there that would love to help you find a way to help others. Good Luck with everything!
