Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Moms of 2+, how do you do it?

I'm pregnant with my second and morning sickness just kicked in.  I'm also exhausted non-stop.  I could handle being tired with DD, but add in the morning sickness and I feel like I can't do anything!

How did you handle being pregnant with having a LO?  Unfortunately, DH is gone by 9am (an hour after LO gets up) and doesn't get home until 8pm (right when LO goes to bed).  I'm a SAHM and we haven't told anyone about the pregnancy yet.

Tips/advice please!  I'm a mommy that definitely needs it!

  • I understand I was there it was terible. I read DD books and we played sometimes. The worst part for me was early mornings so she had cereal or poptarts with fruit because that is all I could handle. Just take it slow and find different activities that you can hande for the time being (reading, coloring).

  • My DD helps out a LOT. I couldn't do it without her.
  • I spent a lot of time in 1st tri laying on the couch while DS played on the floor. He'd hand me cars and things so we could play together.

  • I don't know..... I just did it.   If I needed to lay down, I did.    I think I just was too busy to pay attention to myself.      My only tip is this:   do what you can and forget everything else.
  • I spent a lot of my time on the couch while DD played alone.  That was only until 11 weeks and then the exhaustion stopped for me.  I let my house go until I hit a massive nesting kick at 30 weeks.

  • We still went to playgroup and storytime, which helped because I basically needed to suck it up and act normal. When we were home she did watch more TV than usual, some days a LOT more, but we also read a lot. She also ate a lot of snack foods because I couldn't stand the smell of eggs, sight of cheese, etc (at least she still had fruit!) I actually felt really guilty, but thankfully it passed and things went back to normal! There are some fun things on Pinterest if your LO is into crafts at all. DD loves water so I can do something simple and relatively mess-free like water or snow painting and it will entertain her about an hour at a time while I just sit and watch.

  • I slept when EVER i had time.  I worked full time on a pediatric floor  5 days a week from 3p-11p and the during the day was home all day with DS1.  It was a very very long pregnancy.  But, when I could...I slept.  I don't think I was the greatest mom those 9 months.  But DH was great so it worked.

  • My boys are 3.5 years apart so DS1 was 3 when I was pregnant with DS2. He was very needy when I was pregnant, but him being in preschool 3 days a week for 1/2 days helped tremendously. I wasn't really sick at all during my pregnancy and even flew down to Florida with DS1 when I was 34 weeks pregnant for a week (and went to Universal Studios while there). I didn't feel "wonderful" throughout my 2nd pregnancy, but I didn't feel that bad either. I did feel horrible (chills, throwing up, cramping) a week before my water broke though (it happened to be Easter Day) - go figure.
