OK, well first I thought writing on the label. But then I seen that was wrong. Then the lightbulb went off... It's to fix the cassette when the tape inside gets messed up.
LMAO! Those damn tapes use to get stuck all the time and you know what you need the damn pencil for. It took for ever to untangle that mes. DS1 is 11 years old. We still have a dvd/vhs combo. He wanted to watch an old home movie so I handed him the VHS. He took it got to the VHS and looked back at me. He asked "how do I put this thing in"! I couldn't stop laughing. I felt old! I'm only 29!
Have any of you ever received a "mix tape" of your favorite songs from a friend? This thread made me remember that. The last time I remember a friend giving me a mix tape was when I was 13 (so around 1999). I had CD's back then too, of course.. but tapes were still around.

Yes! My older sister and I were obsessed with this during the Casey Casum(?) top 40.

Every Sunday morning! And you hit the Pause when commercials would come on and half the time you missed that first second of the song that came on next. Lol.

Yes this takes me back ( I was born in 82). Also remember when MTV played music, I loved to turn it up and dance around the house. I was so bummed when my parents moved out to an area they didn't get cable yet.

I was just going to say that! You would hear the song start and you run run run to the radio to hit record. *sigh* Good times. Good times.

Ah, yes, the time when MTV played music videos. I miss it still. I used to watch lots of TRL. I was born in 83.

I don't miss having to flip the cassete to the other side. I do miss mixed tapes. Ipod playlists are not the same...
Agreed. Kids today can just hit next and get a new song. They are missing all of fun of fast forward, play, fast forward, play, fast forward, fuvck missed the start, flip the tape over, fast forward, flip, play, fuvck too far back, repeat until you give up and just listen to the end of the song you didn't want to listen to because you have wasted 20 minutes to skip a 3 minute song.
I still have a Walkman I take to the gym. People give me funny looks.
Oh the years I've wasted on fast forward, play, fast forward. Until I found out that on my mom's player, you could hold down the play and fast forward and it would sound like you were killing a chipmunk. But you found the end of the song faster.
I mostly lurk these days but the fact that people born in the '80s are calling themselves old is making me laugh and cry at the same time. I was born in '76. I remember when a friend of mine at university started dating a girl born in '80 we called her "the toddler". Ha!

(I was the 13 year old in 1999) I wouldn't say I'm "old", but I do remember VHS, cassettes and the good 'ol days when MTV played music. Gosh I loved TRL.
Time goes by so fast. The other night I was in bed thinking of when me and hubby were teenagers, it feels like just yesterday. I was in la-la land about it and then my brain fast forwarded to now where we're in our mid-twenties, parents and homeowners. It's crazy stuff.

Gah! Who was 13 in '99? I was in GRAD SCHOOL!!!
My first boyfriend in high school gave me an awesome mix-tape of cheesy love songs:
Finally Found the Love of a Lifetime by Firehouse
Don't Know What You've Got Til It's Gone by Cinderella
Beth by KISS
Can't Fight This Feeling by REO Speedwagon

This was a fun trip down memory lane except for feeling ancient reading some of the posts :-) I was born in '77.
Mac and cheese lover!
I was happily blocking it out. I didn't go to college myself but I had been out of HS for a couple years by then.

THANK YOU! I was wondering why everyone who is "old" was born in the 80's. I knew there must be some other 70's mamas out there!
Whew! I was beginning to think I was the only one born in the '70s on this site ('78).
