3rd Trimester

contraction question

I was having contractions this morning and even timed them.  I really thought I was going into labor as they got closer together and more intense.  Then they tapered off and went away.  For it to be considered a real contraction is is supposed to be more painful?  These felt no worse than a tough period cramp but they made me dizzy like the ones I had with DD.

What gives?

Re: contraction question

  • Wow, I feel like this is eactly what happend to me today. I started tracking them at 6: 47am and they were consistantly 15-20 mins apart. Now I am feeling them sporatically. What gives? Then I decided to get out of the house and go to the grocery store I turned down the isle and felt a wet gush. Rushed to the bathroom and saw a little brownish/pink in my pad along with the liquid (not sure if water broke). Now I am just waiting, not sure when the little guy is going to come. Good Luck!!!

  • I might not be that much help cause I was really only in labor with my first and then had a schedule C/S with my 2nd. SOOOO from what I remember a tough period cramp is a good sign of a contraction if they last a good chunk and you do get checked out they can do 1 of 2 things.. keep you and just have you walk and walk and walk.. OR send you home to labor more and tell you to come back when the contractions are within 10-15 min. apart or your water breaks....

I hope this helps and BEST of luck!!!!

  • With DD I had 2 or 3 "false alarms" between 36-39 weeks. I would have fairly strong frequent contractions for an hour or two. I would get to the point where I would tell myself that if they kept up for another 30 minutes I would call L&D. Then they would quit.

  • Oh, I hope this is it for you J!!!

  • Don't go off of how painful they are because everyone tolerates pain differently. When my mom was going into labor she called her Dr multiple times asking when to go to the hospital and he kept telling her to wait until they were more painful. After 8 hours she finally went to the hospital (even though they still weren't painful) and she was 8centimeters dilated! Talk to your Dr but most will say that if you are timing them call the dr when the contractions are 5 min apart. If you are unsure whether you are timing correctly thebump has a contraction timer for you
